My guest post for Search Engine People where I argue that ADD is a gift for anyone who does search for a living but disengaging from technology is key to maximizing the benefits of this gift.

Nice post Todd, and very true. However, I actually find that music makes it WORSE for me to focus, instead of better, and I... umm.... aww, dammit, what was I gonna say again?

I was just noticing recently that, while I’ve never considered myself to be a hyperactive person, I always have to be doing *something*. I never just sit quietly and think. Do a lot of search people have insomnia too?

I dropped my comment onsite, but will copy/paste:I’ve got ADHD. (with an H-hyperactivity) Mozart tunes are best for me when doing research and gathering data. limp Biskit & Metallica are best when responding to hateful onliners.. Sia is best in personal reflection. Without 80 windows open at one time, I’m bored. sw, ADD isn’t an auto include of hyperactivity. They are two different demons. Many people with ADD really do sit still.

HAHA this is great.  I always thought my ADD actually helped my learning because of how much information I am able to constantly consume.  My ADD allows me to not stress, and instead multi-task quickly.  I read 50+ resources daily while performing other tasks at work.  And my greatest thoughts come not while at work, but away from work or the situation when all the information finally settles in my head.  Running, lifting, drinking, or doing something other than thinking about Internet marketing.  In order to concentrate at work, my iPod is always cranking & loud, somehow that’s calming.    I’m glad others experience this too.
