Surely those results are flawed. We all know that SEO is bogus and unneccesary. There is no reason anyone would ever need to optimize their site for the search engines.

Yes, but...search volume doesnt equate with conversion rate. With all respect, just because "supermarket" shows a lot of traffic, doesnt mean this traffic is in any targeted part of the sales process.
Bit weird, since supermarkets are very active in SEO, for instance ASDA and Tesco clean up on the keywords which actually convert (insurance etc) - in contrast I dont know anyone who would type in [supermarket] to do their shopping online. Sounds to me the supermarkets know a lot about SEO and just dont chase pointless keyphrases.
