I would add, what digital content do you have that might be able to be added to your website? And, do you think this content is useful to a particular audience?
Thats a great point - I think finding out what digital assets a client has such as ad jingles, short demo videos, old press releases, or articles may be of great use in repurposing and reinventing old content.
Nice checklist. I have my own doorstep to clean. :)
Its actually quite useful to go back and ask existing clients about these questions. Sometimes they will surprise you with keyword rich domains that they bought, and never told you about for example. When you ask why, theyll simply answer - because you never asked!.
Really useful post. I asked some of these questions in the past but never systematically.
Thanks Tad - Glad you liked the post. Do you have any other questions to ask clients, that I might have missed?
Yes, very useful. I sometimes use a reverse IP tool to get the domain stuff but nothing beats asking.
Nice strategy Clickfire. I used to do that too, but sometimes clients have old domains they inherit from parent companies, subsidiaries, and sister companies which have no linking or use. Its pretty difficult to find those ones, if they are poorly indexed, or dont share the same hosts.
It is very important that you know what your client wants that way you know what to do.
Great post. Im going to be sending this to our sales team in the morning. Along with the note "MUST READ". If your sales folks dont ask the right questions, then theres very little hope of creating a strategy that will work to meet the clients needs
Its great that you found the post useful enough to send out to your sales team. Please ask them to comment on the post and share any other insights they might have.
