Sphinn now allows HTML comments for stories, including active links and some basic formatting. Weve also made it easier to manage your Sphinn friends and added to the list of forum profiles available from your Sphinn profiles. You can also find a list of our moderators at our new staff page, plus contact Michelle and I from the new contact form. Were also ready to start hearing requests for new features and ideas. Danny has started a thread where you can help to shape the future of Sphinn. Lastly, Sphinn will shortly be upgrading to the latest version of Pligg (an open source Digg style software) in the next week or two. PS. The "beta" label on Sphinns logo will be vanishing shortly :o)
Congrats!
Great! I dont how this idea with be viewed.. but perhaps a way to stop people submitting massive large numbers of stories in a few minutes. Some users seem to be flooding the upcoming section, making it impossible for stories just a few minutes old to go hot.
Good stuff. The only issues I have are the general slowness, and that some very long pages fail to load the javascript for the replies box, so you cant reply to a thread. Theres a bucketful of duplicate content URLs hanging around, several formats for each thread. It would be a good idea to get some redirects in to fix the worst of them.
Am I the only one who is having trouble with the pages loading? I encounter a lot of delay and sometimes the inability to scroll plus I have to usually click the sphinn button multiple times (sometimes even refresh the page 3 or 4 times) before it will take. Using IE7.
Damn, BIll - you beat me to it by 42 minutes!Logo bug - beta still floating in there. ;)
Great news! The changes in the comment system are spectacular! Nice to be able to know who staff are.
@matt608, we have something in the works to stop large numbers of stories coming in from members in a matter of minutes. And everyone, the software upgrade should help. And well figure out why that home page is 1MB :)
Danny,Its nice to hear you are doing something about large numbers of submissions. In fact I reported yesterday a fellow Sphinner who submitted 20 posts within short time. The moderators took care of that issue, however. Why not limit submissions to 1-2 submissions per Sphinner per day? Btw, is it possible to keep this thread at the top of Hot Topics page for a day or so?
I still cant view my own profile without logging out. Visiting http://sphinn.com/user/view/profile works, but the links are dead. One more thing, tinymces url linker is awfully slow. Perhaps a custom written one might work better? The url linker in gmail works really fast, as a comparison. Also what about upping the comment edit threshold?
@Justin - your username should not contain dashes, spaces, punctuation, etc. etc. (as indicated on the register form). This is why you cannot access your profile. I can remove the hyphen and take care of it. Just let me know if youd like it changed.
Great news.... ...Where is the out of beta party going to be held?
Thanks, michelle. Could you do that? I usually dont read directions as well as I always try to SEO my username, heehee.
@TheSearchBuzz: Spoken like a true Californian!
Harith, yes thats what I mean, but perhaps more than 1-2 per day. More like 2-3 max on the upcoming page at any one time.
Harith, our thought is to probably limit new members from submitting more than once or twice per day until a set period of time has passed. We can also look at limiting number of submissions within a short period, plus spam report buttons are in the works. Its all coming. We need to upgrade our software next week first. Thats a big job, but then we can keep developing.
