From the looks of the network page, to be a top sphinner you need the most submits gone hot. Guess you have to start by working your way up the latter with comments, friends,  and sphinns. In general I think for the first few months  its all about building credibility and awareness. Then you can migrate to reading a lot of SEO blogs and hope your good nature from before gets your submissions hot.

I think comments are not that important. I'm the top commenter in the top 20 btw. ;-)

Just like Wikipedia, I never enter Sphinn by its Front Page.  And, I also never look at it either.  The Hot Page is totally boring to me.

What I find interesting about Sphinn is that even though so many of its users are from Europe and Down Under, all the traffic on it occurs while America is awake.
