Will User Generated Comments be the King of Search Engine Optimization? How does this compare to copywriting?

Sites like Digg, Reddit, Slashdot, StumbleUpon, and the many other user generated content sites are quickly becoming the money making online properties to have. But some smaller user generated sites and niche bloggers are creating some very lucrative properties of their own.

User generated anything is better than having to create all that stuff yourself. And when comments are well thought out and add value to the site, you know you've got a winner.

This site is a perfect example of a user generated property that has a both user added content and user added comments. For the creator of this site it is a total win win situation.

Users add content, sometimes to their own sites, but they promote this site with a vote icon, then they comment on this site to create more content.

One of the interesting things on a site like Sphinn is nearly everyone has something to gain by participating. You probably don't have to sit down anyone that's a member here to educate them about the value of participation, like many probably experience when trying to get clients in niche markets to create blogs, participate on other sites, and author content.

But as good as the activity is here, I believe there is something like 3500 registered users of Sphinn. I wonder what the ratio of registered users to active users is with most web sites that have comment systems.

I am testing user generated content and different ways to invite comments on a few niches. SEO and Internet marketing niches are by far the easiest to find participants. The financial niches seem to be the most difficult.

There is a dichotomy ...

Before one can make an honest appraisal of the related value of either ... the marketing formula has to be considered ... The four "P's" of marketing ...

The four p's; Product, Price, Place, and Promotion, can apply to any vertical, whether it be law, education, real estate, SEO, or even sex ...

That being said ... there will be some marketing mixes that will perform better for "professional" type content such as white papers and research, etc., such as in the service based industries; law, and Information Technology.

However, the consumer product market, realizes a tremendous amount of impact from U.G.C., and Social Media ...

More than ever, businesses have to be on guard about the quality of their products ... a few bad comments ... could quite literally, pull the curtains.

So for the consumer product markets ... comments probably are king ...
