Very nice read and good points, I just dont agree with the thust of what youre positing. SEO changes for to rapidly for any stable prospectus to be established, processed and finally assessed. Havent you heard the saying, "Two SEOs, three opinions"? There would be nearly as many appeals at exam results than dodgy ballots in an American election.
Thanks Joechi. I think the article shows that I disagree with the notion that SEO should become an academically regulated field though... I had more disadvantages than advantages after all ;)
Jane, its hard to see it materializing it any time soon. The problem is, its not easy to define SEO and things change in matter of months. This can be offered as in more refined form though with internet marketing course.
I could see it as a module in a marketing degree or as an elective in a Computing degree.Degrees are supposed to be about learning the fundamentals of a given field and not learning whatever the latest buzzword is. Possiblely an apprentice model might work (a proper one an not the barstadized MA shit that unfortunetly has destroyed vocational training in the UK) I sometimes wonder if I had stood for a particular position I could have had any influence in that policy area but I suspect the C%^’s from putting it bluntly the Mc’Job industries would have to much sway over the department/minister
I agree with nBRidges..now it is still hard to define what SEO is really all about..maybe for now, it can be best taught in seminars and courses...but lets just hope for the best.
Academia moves waaaay to slow to keep up with this industry I think.
