Yahoo today is rolling out a series of changes to their search technology which on the usability side addresses the need for educating the searcher and helping them perform the search query which will lead them to relevant results. And on the findability side of search Yahoo is now offering embedded video, Flickr integration and other universal or holistic search result features which Yahoo’s Tim Mayer tells me is the most significant change Yahoo has made to their search business since dropping their Google powered results three years ago.

Lets just hope that Yahoo results do become a little more relevant and precise with these new search features! Are we going to see Google follow Yahoo this time ?

Great news for Yahoo here. However, this does make me wonder....

1. How will video publishers and video networks who monetize their video pages feel about having their content play within Yahoo's search results?

2. Will we now see more inVideo advertising because video content will now play in Yahoo search results? (Big win for YouTube there)

3. What's up with reports of Yahoo video no longer indexing videos through rss via the web form - http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/rss-media/message/1039

Nice to see Yahoo pushing the envelope for once with the Search Assist feature, the rest of the developments are nice but really just getting them back on par with Google. Still all in all a welcome upgrade.
