Wingnut says...

"So I sent a message to ripoffreport.com asking what their policy about removing postings that are false… Not that I’m on there… just thought it would be a good question."

Alright, I’m hoping that Wingnut is just joshing about using blackhattish tactics in the name of SEO, and what he’s truly doing is exposing the dirty underbelly of ROR in hopes of change. I know that’s what I’m hoping for and why I sphunn the post. Many bloggers wrote about what dastardly practices ROR and sites like it embrace and how these sorts of sites seem to rank more highly than they should...yet nothing changes...

@SisterSledge - At the time of writing I was mostly just shocked by the response they sent me. They sit up on a high horse with how their information is helpful to everyone... but at the same time say they don’t check or care if the info is true or not. It was a pretty angry post - lately my postings have been slow and only hitting when I have time to be shocked/outraged by somethingI would never condone using this method... however... it would totally work. If enough people did this kind of thing it might end up shutting down - or at the very least making sites like this take a good hard look at what their practices.

I really wish we didn’t give dirtbags like these publicity on Sphinn, much less promote them as an easy way to attack someone. :(

RipoffReport will never "take a good hard look at their practices" if businesses are unfairly treated on its pages. Their pages already rank highly for false information, they’re perfectly well aware of it (as is Google) and they don’t care. Whether it meant to or not, this post comes across as an invitation to write negative RipoffReport posts about your competition, which would be one of the more disgusting things you could do.Please let’s not suggest people use this awful website.

Maybe if ROR became a really popular black hat tool, Google would stop ranking this garbage site so well...

the place never seems to go away.that letter was rather pathetic I thought. constantly trying to convince you that their right. i don’t use RR.com, never will, and I cry for those who feel they have no other channels of expression to get their voices heard.

I just had a quick look at that site. I see there is tons on my least favorite marketer Ewan Chia. Maybe there is a conspiracy!

seems amazing to me that these guys can get away with it. if one of us posted slander on our sites we’d probably lose a court case.

people here are so negative about ripoff report, but i use the site, and i think the value it provides WAY outweighs any negatives. I used it just this week to research mortgage ripoffs and scams, and what I learned would make you sick. One company alone had over a thousand reports filed against them, and with good reason. They are now gone, there’s a class action lawsuit filed against them and the FTC is investigating. The kinds of practices they used to lure naive borrowers was disgusting, and without sites like the ripoff report, what recourse would these people have? The government is using the ripoff report to track down what really happened. So complain all you want about how a few customers of yours had a false claim filed against them and how their businesses were so frail that one report brought them down, but without ror, A LOT of people may never have been heard. Who knows how many people read the reports in advance and saved themselves from what others were going through by avoiding a ripoff company? So, I stand by the ripoff report for the good that it does and try to ignore the whining. there are valid ways to combat a report and smart ways to build goodwill to protect yourself from a slanderous comment or two (which, btw, people have to sign a terms doc stating what they’re filing is not false or slanderous, so if they do, then shame on them). Maybe it sucks for a few people, and that’s too bad, but we all know that with a free internet, if you have an enemy, he or she will find a way to blog or comment about you, whether it’s through ripoffreport or some other site, including spinn. you do what you can, and you move on.

@DefendTruth disreguarding the fact that your account here was made only 4 days ago and this is your first comment made on this site (making it look like you work for RoR) - Your screenname is defend truth... and you don’t care that Ripoffreport doesn’t care about truth? Even if only a small percentage of the files claimed on RoR were false it destroys the credibility of the entire site - How do we know the Morgage company you are talking about wasn’t a victim of a competitor or an ex-employee who just happened to have a little extra time/anger on his hands to file dozens of false claims against them? We don’t and neither does Ripoffreport - nor do they care.  The difference is we do care if the claims were false - we care about the truth
