An old aquaintance just emailed me an SEO "proposal" from Orange Soda for $100 setup and $200 per month, and wanted to know if I could "match what theyre offering". Its a long detailed proposal, including all the right buzz words. Makes me wonder what they might acrtually be doing for that nominal fee...
Loved this article! Tweeted it to make sure others got to see it.[offtopic] Wanted to comment on the article itself, but it required logging in, and as far as I could tell, there was no to register in order to be able to log in. Are you purposely discouraging comments? (I do understand wanting to stop spam, btw, but seems like this would block everyone). This is just one of those things that makes me curious, is all.
For the record, I dont think people with the mentality described here attend trade shows like SMX. Everyone Ive met there is a professional whos serious about the business. THe levels of expertise vary, but Ive yet to meet leeches at a show. Also, SMX has very nice food, even for those of us who keep kosher!
I really enjoy that kind of writing..... errr......ranting, whatever. Agree about the login, would have loved to comment.
Great Article, someone had to put it across.
First of all best reference Ive heard to Gallagher and Andy Gibb in a very long time. Though not sure if everyone will get that reference hahaYour rant is spot on. It becomes a "chore" to try to RE educate the public about the value of SEO and the true differences offered between the different services and the wide pricing changes. 90% of our clients have come to us from other "SEOs" (and I use that term loosely) who were doing the typical $200 - $600 a month. They make big promises and never deliver. Ive had several of those type of clients say to me that they dont trust the industry now and will I take money after we achieve ranking for them. I simply told them both that I will not pay for their previous choice of SEO. Both are long term clients that gladly will give a phone referral at a moments notice for me now. With the economy youre just going to get more and more of these types of clients.
What I loved most about the article was the prominence of terms such as search marketing professional, and search professionals being used over SEO.Its no secret I feel it is high time to let go of the albatross around all our necks that is the very reason we all get requests like that. If we want to be known as and paid as search marketers and have people know and understand what they are paying for, it seems to me the first step is to stop using a term that describes something we do NOT do and start using descriptive terms that illustrate what we DO DO.(hehehehehehehe,he said doodoo, heh heh heh heh)
easy, just setup an adwords campaign, show the client they are now on top and take their $1k. Surely they wont know the difference.Seriously though, Ive had to re-educate clients many times - and usually they are people at the top.
Thanks for comments and pointing out the wp login, trying to add spam protection and went too far;) Sorry about that as I love the comments expressed here, thanks again!
Its a rant that everyone has made if theyve spent any time in SEO.
Theres nothing new or valuable here. This shouldnt go hot
