With Sphinn, I don’t see the benefit in guest blogging. I’d rather have that content which took me all afternoon on my site than on someone elses. You get the benefit of long tail searches, and you don’t have to worry about the above problems. Get some status on Sphinn and guest blogging is not needed.

Guest blogging is important.  It’s another type of social proof- if a top industry blog lets you guest post, that increases your credibility and authority in the industry.  But I’m a big believer in using many strategies- and having a lot of content on your own blog(s) is part of that too.

Ok, maybe I’m missing something, but shouldn’t you, as the author, simply take the time to ensure you’re contributing to quality blogs run by good people rather than guest-blogging for people you don’t know/have any experience with?

It’s important to remember that you are where you blog.  If you allow a publisher to alter your work and still keep your name on it, that’s your choice.  If I missed a typo or provide you with a post containing misspelled words and numerous grammatical errors, by all means, feel free to fix them.  If you "don’t like my writing style" or feel the need to alter the content of the original post to meet your own needs or pander to your personal agenda, you damn well better take my name off it - because it is now clearly not my work and I don’t want it published as if it is.I echo Rae’s sentiment above and it’s good advice for new bloggers who mistakenly believe that all guest post opportunities are "good" guest post opportunities...taking the time to get to know those you’re writing guest posts for will likely reduce the chances of this happening to you.

Sphinn isn’t a silver bullet Jeff. As Brian says, you need a range of tactics to build awareness and guest posting is one of them. And from my experience, guest posting on the right industry blogs significantly increases your exposure in Sphinn.

What paisley said in the comments on your site: don’t guest blog for lame people. What you’re describing isn’t a problem inherent in guest blogging; it’s either an issue of miscommunication or the fact that the people you’re allowing use of your name and content are being very uncool. Given that you’ve already started making a name for yourself, why not take a break from guest blogging for a little bit and build up authority on your own site? While I do think guest blogging can be beneficial, it should be done selectively. Now sounds like a good time to focus on adding content where it matters most... your own blog.
