You go, girl! Its interesting that we introverts can do public speaking. When I first started speaking at conferences in 2000 I was also scared to death. The first real talk I almost did run away and had I not been with a friend who comforted me, I probably would have.I can tell you that the more you do it and the more you know your craft and what youre talking about, the easier it gets. I rarely even get nervous anymore, except once in awhile if I am somehow on a panel where I was never quite comfortable with my topic. But honestly, Id much rather do public speaking than be in a social situation with a large group of people I dont know and who dont know me. (Shudder)
Right, I started as a nerdy shy trekkie... I think for experts, speaking to large groups is easier than small group socializing. Theyre definitely separate skills.
Man... I can completely relate. Had my virgin speaking gig here in Aus recently, although I was a fill-in to replace a colleague. I had 3 days to prepare. Scared is an understatement and I barely slept the night before. It does get easier right...???
