I grew up in a house with a lot of rules. From the time I was 8 it was just the girls in my house…. my mom, my sister and I. My mother taught us strong values and we were expected to follow them everyday. Don’t get me wrong…. there was a lot of love as well. But, my mother set high standards for my sister and I. Trouble with that is that I have trouble convincing my boss that dissimilation is not the brightest idea around - he seems married to the idea that people can be sold anything and they’ll be sold better if you can pretend to be "one of them"... like "people won’t listen to a Chinese kid from Malaysia, howabout you make a profile as a white man from England instead?". And what the hell am I supposed to do with that? Drop in "Jolly Good" and "Old Chap" at the end of every sentence? <div></div><div>Also, I’m terrible at socializing. I get easily intimidated and I guess I internalized one of MY mom’s teachings too well: "If you don’t have anything useful to say, don’t say it." </div><div></div><div>Which is why I never interact much around here. Maybe I should find another line of work.</div>

@FuzzyMarketer - My mother said something similar to what your mom said.  She said.... , "If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it at all".  In my mom’s case she was teaching me that there is always a way to say things nicely & proactively.... there was no sense in being mean. Your mom said a similar thing, but with useful which is another good value to teach.  Your comment was very useful and brought up a value that I didn’t mention in my post.  So, thank you.  I wouldn’t let your worry about being useful keep you from interacting with others via comments like this one or any other way online.  Because as long as you interact proactively your opinions and thoughts are very useful.  :)
