Microsoft, which runs Live Search and is the parent company of aQuantive, which owns Avenue A Razorfish, is now partnering with another search marketing firm, The Search Agency, to offer SEO and Paid Search Marketing services to small businesses. Is it ethical for a search engine to offer SEO?

I agree that this does not seem ethical... because search engines say that they do not accept payment for placment in the natural results.  They should not be saying that and have ANY revenue coming in from companies paying to rank.  Because how they get ranked is semantic for exactly the reasons discussed in this post.

It would be much less ethical if they had a higher market share than 5%...

Certainly it creates a conflict of interest and will open up many discussions to debate....

I smell a law suit.  Try to get a judge to beleive that the Google or Microsfot owned SEO Firm did not have inside knowledge of how their algo worked in order to rank their clients.  So now Google and MSN do not accept payment for placement unless you pay for placement. Huh?
