Google’s community edit feature allows unclaimed records in Google Maps to be modified. Not just their physical location but the URL, phone number and the business name as well. This feature has been used to divert income via the affiliate system in the floral, car rental and hotel industries yet the vulnerabilities still remain.

It has been noted that small businesses should claim their records in Google’s Local Business Center but it appears that large ones should as well as Apple’s, IBM’s, GM’s & Coke’s listings are all at risk of being hijacked along with Microsoft.
