In my eyes PR is still very important, but only as a health indicator of a site. Personally when it comes to Link Building the only thing I am interested in is has Google cached this page. But then again I already have a descent PR, I'm just looking for more specific Anchor Phrases.
Thank you, drmadcow. But if you saw an article which fits very well into a post you write, would you link to it even if that blog did not have any PR, or even if that page was not cached by Google yet? Or would you rather select your sources according to more than one criterion?
"Personally when it comes to Link Building the only thing I am interested in is has Google cached this page."
Not really sure what that has to do with who YOU link TO.
Jill,
I think this is symptomatic of the belief that Google is out there just waiting to pounce on your site the moment you link to something Google doesn't value. Kind of frustrating to see so many people still looking at things like way.
I mean I get the idea of wanting links FROM sites that have been indexed by Google, especially if you're looking to get your new site indexed...but to worry about the sites you link TO?
Whatever happened to trusting your own judgement in terms of whether or not the content you are linking to is quality?
You said it, Jen!
And once again it all comes back to people not understanding the meaning behind what they're doing when it comes to SEO stuff... sigh...
