A short while ago, I compiled a database of web/business directories. Using filters I was able to sort via page rank/industry or any other credential to create a shortlist for particular clients. With very little value in directory listings these days (in my opinion), I rarely bother with it but there are selective few directories that are worth trying to get into.A good list containing some directories I am not too familiar with. Thanks
Total price tag for this package is...?
ditto?
Hope you guys enjoy the list! In terms of the total price for this package; it all depends on what type of submission(s) you choose (regular, featured, permanent). As an average each directory submission costs around $30-$40 for so youre looking at the $1000-$1,500 range Id say.
Checked out these directories in a little more depth and looks really helpful, thanks.Always good to be introduced to a few more options....Thanks,Ben M
No BOTW love :(
BOTW is still loved.
Forgive my complete ignorance, but I have a question about paid directories. So youve got a website...You pay the owner...He puts up a link to your website...How is this not considered buying a link?
Good question! Theoratically, directories charge for reviewing the site, not for putting up the link. At least, that´s what they tell Google ;)
I must say I am wondering what criteria were used to determine the generous "status" of these directories. Given the poor taxonomies used by some of the directories, given the lack of ontological relationships in some of the directories, given the large number of empty categories in some of the directories, give then propensity of some of the directories to prominently feature top-paying-niche sites ...If the main criterion is simply to get a link, then perhaps they are good targets, but purely from a quality directory point of view then I would respectfully disagree with Pauls assertion that they are all "top" and/or "most powerful" directories. Some are upper tier perhaps, but not all, and certainly not the ultimate of directories.Respectfully,Woz
Unfortunately the list is absent of the literally the most powerful paid directory online...
Thanks for all your honest feedback on the list. As I mentioned, I didnt include some very powerful directories (like BOTW, Business.com, Yahoo!) because they may be too expensive for many people. That being said, I stand by this list. Instead of submitting to BOTW, Business and Yahoo on a 1 year basis you could get permanent listings in over half the directories on this list. Now, never have I said anywhere in the post that this list is the definite list of all lists. Its not, it will need to be changed and updated; but currently it represents a strong majority of the top paid web directories. In terms of what criteria was used in compiling this list, I covered this pretty extensively in part 2 of the three part series on the power of directory submissions for link building.
