.EDU links have been hot for a while now, and reason for a lot of controversy - mainly from people who understood the value lies in the domain extension ".edu" as opposed to the the inherent domain strength and trust the universities have.

Today we are looking into the big UK universities - and show you the top 30 of 600 - based on SEO criteria.

Thanks to the trusted links they have getting links from .ac.uk domains can really be worthwhile - and this is something you should look into.

Thank Kevin! I appreciate your feedback. Actually I was a bit unsure if this would suffice, since we got that "spreadsheet of hell" with all the base data in it... but publishing that in all detail, all formulas would make it a 10000 word post ... way too much to read and comprehend...I thought about offering that as a detail report for interested people once we get enough comments on the post  -what do yo think?best, christoph

I seem to be reading this as "I built up a list using a set of criteria I’m not telling anyone about". Did I misunderstand anything? Because if not, I don’t see the value proposition. Also, I would sincerely hope you are not inviting people to target Oxford Uni and others for spamming, which is how such a list is likely to be perceived.

@iBrian: If you read again you’ll notice that we DID try to explain our approach, without giving away all details and numbers we put together for a couple days... yes. I understand that you want to have all the nitty gritty details resulting in dozens of hours of our work for the valuation model, and see no value in getting results. Well, that’s one opinion and the first negative feedback so far that I can live with, without feeling pressure to give out everything. We tried to describe the approach on a high level, present our results and wanted to get feedback on it. So far nobody did present a ranking of universities based on SEO factors - to possibly release a bigger, more compehensive version in the future when we looked at other countries’ universities (see comment thread on site)Not sure tough how you come to imply that we "invite" somebody to spam anyone?

Well, it’s more the point of who is going to find such a list most useful? Whatever your intentions, it’s certainly worth considering who your presentation on this topic will be most useful to. In terms of the value presented by such a list - again, unless I’ve misunderstood anything, it’s easy to see this as an entirely arbitrary list. Obviously with 30+ Sphinns perhaps other people see value in such a list - I’m just saying it’s not well communicated to someone like myself. Simply feedback. :)
