Its the end of the day so thought Id be generous and spare a couple of minutes...The first quiz is demographics orientated and the second is industry and ranking perspectives in case anyone wants to know...
Other people better vote, otherwise theyve got a good chance of knowing which answers I gave!!!!
been live for only a few hours and 16 seos have already completed the first round of 10 multiple choice questions! Please pass the word and the survey links to seos everywhere!
heading towards 100 complete surveys! Please keep spreading the word!!!
FYI, not everyone who is self employed is either a consultant or a blogger. Some of the best in SEO are affiliates, which seems to be completely ignored on this survey.<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td colspan="3"><table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td class="QuestionText">Do you work...</td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr><tr><td class="QuestionError" colspan="3" style="color: #cc0000"> </td></tr> <tr><td colspan="3"><table border="0" width="542" height="94" class="Answer"><tbody><tr><td id="13505406" class="AnswerText" width="null"> in-house</td></tr><tr><td id="13505407" class="AnswerText" width="null"> for an agency</td></tr><tr><td id="13505408" class="AnswerText" width="null"> self-employed consultant</td></tr><tr><td id="13505409" class="AnswerText" width="null"> self-employed blogger</td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table>
Dont mean to sound a damp squib, but why should anyone volunteer their time to answer ten surveys on their business practices? No doubt a few bloggers will be keen, but how many senior people have the time and inclination to waste time with it - and how would their absense affect the results? Not trying to be unnecessarily pessimistic, as much as necessarily realistic.Meanwhile, typing this already killed my tea-break time - got to get back to work. :)
@ sugarrae - excellent point. First, please accept my apologies. Second, thanks for your input. I will add affiliate questions in one of the next surveys... Perhaps if you have some time, or are even a little interested, you might take it. If you have any questions you would specifically like to have answered, perhaps youd leave another comment? Im not a guru on every aspect of this industry, which is why feedback from people like yourself is both appreciated and necessary. @ ibrian - I hear you. The goal is not to be a big brother survey on business practices. It is to get some genuine feedback from the search community as a whole on their take on our industry. A lot of industries conduct high-powered expensive surveys on a regular basis... We dont - not that Im aware of in any case. I hope that there are not too many search marketers, high-powered or not, who would not like some additional insights from the industry, to the industry so to speak. To date the mix of salaries and job positions are pretty varied, so some folks from all levels seem to be participating. As with any survey, if enough people dont contribute, the results will be nearly worthless. The questions I am posing are of interest to me, and I assume to others based on the fact that people are getting involved. I also ask that people provide additional questions they would like to see included in the comments of the semi blog post. Im not doing this to make anything or gain anything other than greater insight into our industry, which I will be delighted to share with everyone, even if you did not participate. If you think the results might be of interest, and if you think youll have the time to read them, perhaps a few minutes of your time to complete the short surveys as they come out is not too much to ask... Im very sorry about your tea-break :)
@laurac I actually was half thru taking it, and then I noticed that what I did wasnt there, so I stopped... didnt see the point in skewig your results... since you asked...what do I do - choices were SEO and PPC... I tend to consider things more as organic and paid... social media is not SEO for instance. Neither is affiliate marketing... so that isnt so much "what I do" but "how I do it".Where does one work? It is hard for peeps who work for themselves to check off remote... since they actually arent - theyre at the office, just at home ;-)>>>How would you describe your SEO position, not your actual title, but rather your SEO status?Im the CEO or business owner...>>>What is your gross annual remuneration (base salary including bonuses, excluding benefits and perks)? Also not super applicable to me....>>>Which of the following do you think is the biggest challenge facing SEO’s today from a deliverables perspective?>>> Lack of cross discipline supportI think you should call this a "corporate seo" survery... I am not ashamed to admit I dont know what either of those phrases even means and hope I never do. ;-)>>>conferences Youre missing several, including aff summit, ad tech, web 2.0, etc
@ sugarrae - I feel like I need to pay you :) thanks very much for your opinion... I will include everything that I have missed (and been made aware of as my mind reading skills suck big time) either in a future mini-survey in the series this week, or in the notes appended to the results. I super appreciate your time.
*** I dont know what either of those phrases even means ***Deliverables ... the end product - be it content, artwork, a pile of code, links, technical stuff, or whatever else you get paid to make / do / produce.Cross discipline ... doing lots of *different* stuff, so coding and design as well as content creation, marketing, or any other combination of multiple things.Yeah, corporate speak. Dunno where I picked that up, as I do no corporate stuff.
@g1smd I find those phrases to be much like the ingredients to a slim jim - things I could easily go my entire life without knowing or wanting to know ;-)
@sugarrae - please see the new THIRD set of 10 pure MC questions. More PPC and affiliate questions will follow, but this will start to get a handle on the thoughts of affiliates! The feedback and interest so far has been phenomenal, and some of the answers have been very. very interesting. Thanks to everyone else, and please keep checking the page up till Questionnaire 5 - Ill make a new page at the point and shift focus. Full reporting will follow with insights during December.
Rockin out with the 4th and final of the series for this period! Take part and help define the industry!
