I for one wouldn't be worried about what some turd says. You Sphinners that did should meet me in a dark alley, ok?

First off, mud slinging is childish and one of the more unfortunate traits in the biz over the last while.
Second, some of us are unable to, or not inclined to go to conferences. And while live streaming (such as at Scary SEO) can be handy, often times a synopsis can be useful as well.
There is certainly a place and there are SEOs the world over that will never make it to said events. I may not get much out of the information as I once did, but there are many folks that still enjoy the coverage and SER has always had some of the best coverage IMO...
And trust me... I'm not even a 'Barry Fan-boy' - just dislike seeing hard working peeps get upset as he is... Barry, F' em... keep up the great work...
Nuff said... back to reality.
Weird- I would think if the newness of the guy's blog invalidated his opinion, you'd just disregard it?
His opinion (the original post) was invalidated because he totally personally attacked the live bloggers.
While I think the resulting discussion that occurred here at sphinn was helpful, the original blog post was just mean and nasty and not at all helpful.
76% NO votes so far....
@Jill
The only thing that counts is the current post, which is anything but nasty.
Try hiring stenographers and court reporters to do your live blogging and the accuracy will skyrocket.
I really appreciate all the live blogging efforts from both the SEO community and the computer science community, and all the live streams and the access to the information which you otherwise just wouldn't be able to have unless people put the time and effort in to share it.
I'm really really grateful, and always return the favour. Thanks for all your efforts.
Don't stop, or I might actually have to fly somewhere ;)
Blimey, if every web writer stopped because some random blog dissed its content they'd be nothing online at all. Sounds like a thicker skin is needed, not multiple Sphinn threads on whether people should live blog - if people read it, why not? Noone forces people to read live blogging, and noone forces you to write.

Ok, fine, I'll be the ass here. Brian, your blog is on BLOGSPOT and you are talking about signs of invalidating the success or knowledge of someone writing a blog?
Anyone who has been in the industry for more than five years knows John. He's an old schooler, he's a webmasterworld.com mod who has donated his "turd" time to answering and helping newbies for years. He's always been underground and this is likely why.
You don't have to agree with his opinion. I don't. I HATE live blogging, but not due to inaccuracies. I hate it because it waters down the experience of attendees. You also do have to understand it is written as one person hears it in real time. But I also highly respect the time and effort it takes.
I didn't see the original blog post and only see what is there now, but John is a good guy I've known for many years and I can see him writing from the heart and having it come across as a "not meant for" attack.
The live blogging from the various conferences don't really benefit me much 'personally' (probably mainly due to the fact I am in a different time zone to the majority of them, heh) however I do appreciate and understand the work and organisation that goes into them and if there are people out there that fully rely/depend/use them, then that's great.
I am happy with summarised articles after the event or whatever really. But I don't really think bloggers should really give up live blogging, judging by the votes so far, it seems the majority appreciate them. My vote went to 'Other' by the way, based on my personal opinion as it makes no odds to me.
If you enjoy live-blogging, and you have people that enjoy reading it, then keep doing it.
If you enjoy posting photos of your cat dressed up like a pirate, and you have people that enjoy seeing those photoes, then keep doing it.
etc. etc. etc.
(Personally, I don't find most live blogging to be helpful at all.)
First - as long as there is an audience for live blogging, keep doing it. Based on the comments left at SER thus far and the poll, more people want you to keep doing it than want you to stop.
Second - those relying on live blogging accounts of conferences rather than attending the conferences personally should already understand that the information is at least partially skewed by the blogger's perspective. That doesn't necessarily make it inaccurate. Blogging, live or otherwise, is prone to inaccuracies based on the individual blogger's interpretation of the subject in question and depends solely on their commitment to base their opinions on verifiable facts and/or evidence. If you want a 100% accurate account of the event, I suggest you attend the conference and get the information first hand.
Third - I've never read any of the live blogs personally, but for those who can't attend all of the conferences and/or aren't in a financial position to spend thousands of dollars every few months for the conference, the travel expenses, hotels, etc., the live blogging probably makes them feel as though they're not completely out of the loop. And they may actually learn something from time to time.
Fourth - if you don't like live blogging, here's a novel idea...don't read it. That way no one gets offended, no one gets ticked off by alleged inaccurate accounts, no one comes off looking like the ass, and the people who enjoy it get to continue doing so...tada! Problem solved!
It all boils down to - your audience. If there are subscribers keep doing it. But for Gods sake stop pointing out how much effort you and your team has put in to live blogging. We all are hardworking and put in a lot of efforts in our projects, but then we should not expect people to kiss our ass if we produce crap. Honestly, who really cares if you have not eaten or slept for years doing your job? its the end product that really matters.
