In today’s blog post at Search Engine Journal, Ann Smarty revealed results indicating that Google penalizes sites with over-optimized internal links. Specifically, she examined the effect of linking to the Home page using keyword rich anchor text. These results make a lot of sense. Google is right to penalize sites with over-optimized internal links.

What if "Home" is a picture and its alt is "Computer Spare Parts Home"? It’s usable and it’s "over"-optimized at the same time.

Hmmm. But if the alt was read out to a vision impaired visitor, "Computer Spare Parts Home" wouldn’t be particularly useful. Certainly not as useful as "Home page"...
