There’s goes the quality of twitter. I love making money, just as much as anyone, but this one does kinda rub me raw. 1 ad per 5 tweets with an easily gamed system? How long before 1 in 5 of EVERY tweet is an ad?IMHO, a better model is to continue adding value through your blog and embedding affiliate marketing that way. Write a post, tweet about it, get visitors, get click thrus. Now, this is a "better" model in that it ads more value than microsplogging. Will you make as much money? Probably not.

I wrote a greasemonkey script to filter out magpie adds on Twitter.com - you can pick it up on my site if you’re interested.

"a new controversial twitter monetisation scheme"... It was new last week. There will always be attempts at monetization. I imagine a few people will use it, will lose followers, then will drop it. No big deal. If some people set up spam twitter accounts to use this service then so be it. Spam twitter accounts have and always will exist. Don’t follow them back - problem solved.Guarantee in one year no one will remember what magpie is.
