Well-written and I think shes right.
"Personally, I was just p**sed off there was no mention of jet packs or cloning."I knew I had forgotten something!
Really nice article Jane - crossing fingers that your prediction on a return to journalistic standards - or even just good basic writing skills - in online publishing will come true. Your point on geography trumping technology resonated with me as well. I was recently asked my opinion of someone, that I only know via Twitter. My reply was "I can only tell you what I can assess from how they have portrayed themselves online." I never presume to really know or understand someone until I have met them face to face, and had an in-person conversation. IMO, social apps are to personalities as photoshop is to images.I think this is why conferences, meetups, and networking events will never be replaced - even though all of the information (that you get from conferences) and tools (to stage online gatherings and meetups) are available on the web. Nothing will ever replace the benefits of of sitting down (or standing in a bar) face to face with someone - or a group of people - and having conversations.
Thanks Michelle, and Im delighted that you enjoyed the post. Theres another whole post to be written surrounding the differences in peoples personalities online as opposed to in person. I was thinking about my close friends when I wrote that, but theres a lot to be said for online acquaintances relationships as well.
Very nice article... but i still want my jet back! But seriously its great to see a list of the future that;a) doesnt include flying carsb) doesnt surmize whats practically already happened.
