Very well put.Nicole
Wow. Thats gotta suck, that was a big mistake. I wondering if the person that sent the press release is still working for him. Also, Im glad to see it was just mistake in mis-managing his personnel and it wasnt what we all thought it was (him stroking his own pride). Props to him about speaking up about the situation. :)
The irony is just too funny... the social media expert is taught a lesson in acceptable social behaviour via a public crucifiction. At least hes learned something though. I hope hes teaching that at his next course :)
I wouldnt want to face this situation, but good amout of common sense and courage is required to cure it.
@JamesDuthie agreed!
That article was written excellently by the way...@JamesDuthie also agreed!
Was that so hard? really?Seems I say sorry allot, but its really not that difficult. Good article, perhaps I should temper some of my posts to not be so,,,, so.... insensitive.
If you guys agree with James, you should hit the + next to his comment to vote it up. I seem to have been the first to do so.Oh, by the way, @JamesDuthie, agreed! ;)Todd, very nice post -- and a good lesson indeed.
Thanks Tamar (and the rest of yall) :.)
@tamar agreed! (thanks for the reminder, I normally do...cheers)
Yeah, the "irony" is hilarious. He messes up, we throw rocks at him for our own amusement, and then we applaud him for acting like an adult when we couldnt. This industry is so weird.
"This industry is so weird."Thats the understatement of the year.
Good point Lisa. Its true he was treated savagely. But its also true that Todd copped his fair share of criticism for outing him in Sphinn (which youd hope is a far more adult environment than Digg & others).
I cant tell you how enormously (vicariously) proud this post makes me feel as an SEO/blogger. I agree with your approach 100% Todd, and I want to thank you for being so mature, generous, and tranparently forthright. Hats off to you. I liked you and your writing before, now Im hooked. Good on you, mate.
Has Matt really done anything remarkable? I cant think of any other way he could have successfully played this.You cant fault him for how he has handled things, but all he has really done is what any half-decent marketer/promoter would do - everything he can to turn a bad situation to his advantage.Incidentally, the schtick about barely knowing anything about the press release doesnt wash - a glance at any of his stuff sees the same self-congratulatory tone. I dont know, maybe his mom wrote it for him...
I believe there is another lesson here. If you "suggest" that someone write a press release about you, it makes good sense to read it first before it goes out.
