This is a good guide but it seems to be based on pre-univesal search SEO, especially the areas concerning ongoing work. The consulting that delivers value on an ongoing basis involves a lot more than link building and "SEO maintenance". An account manager should be assigned by the SEO firm to provide end to end consulting and oversight of implementation as well as the creation, optimization and promotion of the web sites digital assets. Interpreting the effect of those actions in the context of how well they are contributing to marketing and business goals is also part of the ongoing consulting that should be a part of any SEO project.Does this make sense to anyone else or am I off on a tangent? :)
Lee, youre not at all off on a tangent -- and you raise some quality points here.Part of the trouble for me in creating this set of tips like this, is sticking to basics that all would be able to relate to. The bulk of the SEO providers out there tend to be fly by night shops that target small businesses where SEO carries even more importance. For these companies, managing digital assets like videos and images is an afterthought. But, in the end -- I failed to address that or even approach that subject. Im going to work in your suggestions now, so please note -- the article will change a bit thanks to Lees contributions here.
Hey Eric, Im glad it was taken as constructive as that was the intention. I suppose it would be better for SEO firms like ours if I DIDNT draw attention to such matters. :)Updating the article was very generous of you and I still think its a good guide without any edits. I especially appreciate such insight from someone like yourself whos been on both sides of the SEO fence.
Thanks Lee -- were all in the same boat. Its all about education, and if we cant learn from one another... Whats the point? :)
