Also, CATEGORY WISE: I don’t think this is "web analytics".  This is about PPC metrics.  Web analytics are about what happens on websites- most of the metrics I talk about happen in the PPC realm.  Only a portion of it happens on the site.

Great article.  A little dry, but it’s definitely an important topic.Brian claims that ROAS and CPL are the two most important/optimal KPIs in pay per click advertising, and some of my client’s favorites, CPC, CTR, and conversion rate, are suboptimal.Here’s an excerpt:If you’re an MBA, or you studied business in school, you probably HAVE heard of KPIs. If you’re self-taught in business, you might not have. But it’s a simple concept: Your KPIs are the best metrics you can find to judge the success of any business effort. Some examples of KPIs in Pay Per Click Advertising include: Cost Per Lead (CPL)Return on Ad Spend (ROAS)
