Thanks for the sphinn Gib. I think anyone interested in local search would want to keep an eye on BOTW Local. If they can execute they have a lot of potential.
Great interview. As you mentioned, yellow pages are pretty much under attack and are being replaced by online directories like BOTW. As the web evolves, I think universal search will play a much bigger role in displaying local businesses. Smaller niche directories will also become more significant.
Nice interview, Greg and BOTW are right on target to do really well in local. I believe the best thing they have going for them is a reputation of trust, which I find the big yellow companies are severely lacking.
I think you are right on Mike. Greg impressed me as a pretty straightforward guy. Its not like the YP guys are all dishonest, but their brands and industry as a whole has a lot of baggage that services like BOTW just dont have.
@planetc1 just wondering why you think the big yellow companies are lacking in trust (incessant phone calls trying to upsell, poor results?) - cheers.
@yetanotherben hahaha Thats part of it. :) Lets see, big YP company deleted 18 5-star reviews on my business after I declined interest in advertising, YP sales rep in my office trying to sell ppc when #1 organic result on sales copy was my site, the list goes on.. and on.@andrewsho its not the people individually, I agree. Collectively though, they have work to do if there is going to be any trust.
@planetc1 ouch! Thats gotta hurt! I hope you had a gentle word with them and put them straight... ;)
Almost every time I perform a local search for businesses in my area, local.botw.org pops up. They have quickly become a trusted local business authority, up there with Yellowpages and Merchant Circle.
