Digg went down today for about an hour. When it came back up, I noticed a few minor changes in the site design.

First, the ‘beta’ button on the upcoming tab was changed from the red square to a gray text, in an effort to slowly fade it out.

I think Digg is headed in the wrong direction with this update.  They’ve accentuated the submitter, rather than the story.  Your eye is drawn more to who submitted the story rather than the story. One of Digg’s main quality problems is that people will vote for stories based upon who submitted it rather than the contents of the story.  Likewise, if you don’t have a well recognized avatar on digg you’re likely to get your submission panned right away because people don’t recognize you.I suppose what they were trying to accomplish is that your eye is drawn to the submitter, and then to the ad directly below it.
