Geo-targeting can work both ways, helping customers find you, and helping you find customers. Online retailers can actually increase conversion rates if they pay attention to the location of site visitors and serve up location-specific messaging. If you do it right, the effect is to make the online environment more personal, warmer and more welcoming.

You are right. A dry cleaner gets most business within a five mile radius. People who live twenty miles away might be tempted if they got a really good deal.
Nice article, but one thing that still in my mind. Does the SE consider the server location as a factor? I mean, if your server is in Texas, then your site will rank better in Texas. Does anyone test it?
@fabioricotta The SE seems to focus more on the country level than the state. Most instances have shown that factors used in Geo Targeting is equated on a national level. On a local level, Google seems to be sourcing listing from Google Local Business Center. However, you have given me some food for thought. Cheers.
