Just read this in the newsletter and was about to DM you to say how much I liked it. Excellent analogy.

Great post Jill.  I am a big fan of relating online stuff to the real world.  Having two young children who think tantrums are the ultimate Olympic test of kidhood, I can relate to the importance of trying to distract a crying, whining or even overly excited (in a good way) child.  And you are right; websites can be like crying kids.

Thanks, Julie! Unfortunately, there are a zillion more things to look for to see if your website is crying. I think I’ll be doing some follow up articles so that I can get more of them in.

@amabaie yeah, distraction is a good word for it when it comes to the kids. I honestly could not believe that these parents just basically ignored them. Like whatever!

While my site isn’t crying to the point I want to stuff a sock in it, I do want to give it some loving attention - a new look, some new content, get re-started on blogging (and getting WP on the server), etc. I’m very fortunate to be quite busy with client work and teaching so those things will be on the "To-Do" list for awhile longer. Thanks for another very cool newsletter!

Like Julie and amabaie above, I love it when often misunderstood and foreign concepts like usability are explained using analogies that people outside the web design & search marketing community can relate to.
