Thats interesting. I remember when I started using twitter last spring I really did not get it... Now I think its such a valuable business tool.
I still dont get it :( All links are appreciated... then again, I outsource all my big social media...
OK. Dominate. I disagree. What do these numbers prove? How you "rank" is a a flawed concept fundamentally. I dont collect friends on twitter like many facebook or myspace users. Twitter is a communication channel. Everyone uses it different. The use cases for twitter are different for each person. I have no idea how i "rank" nor do i care. I know thousands of people follow me, but so what; this is relatively unimportant. For me it is about an influence use case and not a numbers game. Cheers!Rodney Rumford
Just curious where youre getting the ranking numbers from.
So by dominate I would have to assume a couple things and I just threw this up out of curiousity. You would have to define what dominate means. Keep in mind I just threw this up and didnt think about what it means yet. It could mean one of these two things:1. Our industry compared to any other has the Most people in the top xxxx .2. Our industry has the most UNIQUE followers compared to other industries regardless of how its used to influence people. But in #2 this data could be deceiving because if more people in search have twitter accounts than any other industry there is a lot of overlap because we all follow each other. So you would have to take that data out. For example, if you and I both have the same 20 followers we cant really count those people twice if we were to look at the absolute population reach. We cant say that combined we have 40 followers. There are really on 22 people in our "search network".A lot people in search marketing have many of the same followers.I agree, like any other kind of traffic or channel, I could get more out of 80 followers than another person gets out of 1000. I will bet that search marketers have have more people in the top 5000 than any other industry. Thats proabably all it means and we probably knew this.
From http://www.twittercounter.com/
Well, in that case, you forgot me! Im 1721.That and $4 and I can get a coffee at Starbucks!
If anyone is the top 5000 I have no problem adding you. Unless it gets out of hand :)
What about Jason Calacanis (#5 with his 48k+ followers)?
That is pretty funny. I will have to open a few thousand more twitter accounts to get my twitter number up. I also discovered that if you take your twitter number and divide it by your sleep number, it predicts your stripper age.Actually Sean, I had no idea about this and found it interesting. I also like the fact you are able to ruffle some feathers with it, always a fun move!Wishing I was back in Montana!dk
I am #4205... I better start tweeting more to get more followers :)
Not even one SEO in the top 100? I call that failure not domination!
@purposeinc Well its just numbers. Thats why they are interesting. Everyone interprets them differently and they are what they are. They dont lie. Do with them what you will. As a marketer you can look at people like Shoe posting his twitter traffic and showing what a large percentage of traffic he gets from this. @jenstar added
Well, Im #1843, though Im ahead of some folks who are a lot smarter than me :.)
Opps @toddmintz added. So many in the top 5K. If I would have said 10K I might have a full time job :)
If you want to measure performance, Id say that time spans are a major factor. E.g. how long does it take someone to rise, say, from pos. 100k+ to 1k - always assuming thats what they want to achieve in the first place. After all, depending on your specific business model Twitter may either prove to be the best thing since sliced bread or a prime time waster...
@fantomaster Good point. Acceleration..... and twitter can be a huge time waster. I have another post idea for twitter but not sure it fits the guidelines of Sphinn. I will try it later today. Its just about some observations I made at conferences this year.Acceleration can be seen on those graphs. Looking at some of them I was expecting to see the graphs really turn up as the number of follower got larger and larger. Almost exponential but they look more linear in slope.
"Not even one SEO in the top 100? I call that failure not domination!"Have you noticed who *is* in the top 100? Most of them are either web 2.0 personalities, Barack Obama, or news outlets. Its pretty hard to compete with that if you are even trying.Oh, and Im in the top 5k too, but does it really matter? :)
Yes it does, Tamar. You can use it plus your $4 and have a cup of coffee with me!
Hey, can I get a cup of coffee too? Im ranked #2540 @shimonsandler
Heh...only if you have $4 too!
