Century 21, one of the first real-estate companies to advertise on TV, is pulling all national TV advertising in 2009 and redirecting its efforts and ad dollars to the web. With the beleaguered real-estate market showing no signs of a turnaround, the realtor has decided to play the numbers and go where the buyers and sellers are: online.

Hey everyone, I used to work as a IM manager for a C21 franchise. I can tell you that they already have TONS of untapped tools and resouces. The biggest problem with them is that they seem to be very sporadic in where they place their money and doesn’t have a focused direction in terms of promoting their franchises and brokers online. But they are a great company to work with. Let me know if anyone has any questions from an IM outsiders view!

Chris, timing is everything.  I was literally drafting this post http://sphinn.com/story/97107 minutes before you submitted yours. Glad to see C21 getting in the know.

They’re actually doing quite a bit of online work at the corporate level...a little bird told me ;)There’s still a lot of work to be done in terms of SEO and social media, but both them and their parent company, Realogy, have been and continue to move on the right track.

I think as the next decade edges closer and the economy gets worse, larger companies are gonna start yanking high-priced print and television campaigns in favor of targeted SEM with direct, measurable ROIs. It just plain makes sense on the bottom line. It’s astonishing to me that more big-name companies aren’t doing the same right now.
