Several years ago, before I started working with Danny and Chris at SEW, I began my interest in what I call mobile or wireless access to information. Ask Danny or Chris, for a while, that's all I wanted to talk about.

Since then the area has started to boom and each day more content and tools become available. Right now, multimedia on wireless is booming. For example, it's one thing to read or hear a traffic report perhaps even more useful to see live traffic cams. Here's an example:

Of course, IVR (interactive voice response) services are also booming.

In this ResourceShelf post,
http://tinyurl.com/346can
we take a look at what "extras" voice activated directory services offer. For example, Google now offers maps (as does TellMe), Free411.com offers business, government and residential listings. TellMe offers another useful service, being able to send a directory listing (and maps) to others via SMS.

In another post,
http://digbig.com/4tfad
we offer some links to services that will convert phone messages to text, allow you to have a voice activated "to do" list, etc.
I've been trying out Reqall, SpinVox, and CallWave. All impressive. Another useful service is PrivatePhone.com. This free service allows users to get a voice mail inbox in just about any area code in the U.S. Even hard to get area codes like 212 and 415. You can listen to messages over the phone or on the web.

Finally, back to traffic. Traffic.com offers both voice activated reports and alerts (you select the roadways) and they call when your criteria are matched.

Phones are going very great in demand. This is all because of their multi purpose ability and uses. Mobile phone users drive themselves to use it as a sourceof information.
