Using information from The Independent newspaper, we have conducted a very similar piece of research, looking at 30 articles which have recently been on the first page of Digg. The graph below plots the number of Diggs each article received and the referred traffic (vertical axis), the horizontal axis shows the article number.

This just shows that the number of active Diggers is quite low.  Most people just surf the front page and read the articles and can’t be bothered with the mechanics of participating in the community.  Thus the relationship between votes and page views is not linear.Which is true of everything else on the internet.  Most people are just there to lurk, and it’s only a small percentage actually driving everything.Social marketers should also take heart -- it only takes a few hundred diggs to leverage thousands of visits.

digg does have great value, i have only recently started in this sort of thing and Digg has given me abit of hope along with sphinn, in order for something to work people have to be active, if they want Digg to work for them they definately need to be active reading digging and commenting atleast 10 a day ... just my 2p
