I also foresee business owners, companies, marketers and social media users going through the process of realization about what social media really is and how it could help them to utilize it as a better tool. Most people are jumping onto these platforms just because everybody is doing so. They need to understand the purpose of it and how to make it work for you and your business.
I agree, Wayne. Just like with SEO, a small number of business owners will "get it" and really try to find the right use for social media. But most will say, "Ill take one of those, please." I find the biggest part of pitching SEO is education, explaining that it is more like a sport than a science - there is not a precise game plan, or every website would be number 1 for every search term. (Most businesses do "get it" when explained to them, and I think the team I was meeting today got it.) I expect the custom nature of social media will be even harder to explain. I had my first go today at trying to explain how Twitter could help a prospective client, and I found that its just not that easy to explain to someone unfamiliar with the tool.
@AmabaieWill there ever be (or is there) a way to really measure the effectiveness of using social media? I mean we can track results for SEO, Email Marketing, PPC and everything else, but how do you know if your Facebook page really delivers results? In the end we have to get see results or we are just spending time on all of these social media and we have no clue how its helping our business. Any ideas on how to measure the effectiveness of social media would be great!
