A good landing page is absolutely essential to get positive leads & conversions from your PPC Campaign. When a searcher searches for a particular phrase, the search engine automatically tries to return the most relevant result. For instance, if a user searches for “waterproof camera” – instead of taking him to the Home page of a website that consist of a variety of cameras, it tries to list all the pages that have information/products specific to the searcher’s query – “waterproof camera”.

I think the Google Goggle software can help people with Landing Page Optimization or LPO. This software was made for PPC, but can also be used for SEO & LPO.

@seobro - Google’s website optimizer is a great tool for landing page optimization - but it will only help if you use it to create good LP variations to test. If you use it to create bad variations it wouldn’t be so helpful - thus it important that people first understand the the "landing Page Best Practices" set out in Saab’s article.I would also add a few more points about the design of a landing page - Saab mentions using multiple call to actions - which is true - but placement of call to actions is very important. The majority of people scan pages in a similar way focusing on certain points of the page first and moving down. Also you have to optimize PPC LPs different from other pages (optimized for SEO) in order to increase conversion rates - e.g reduced navigation (you don’t want clicks to your PPC page and have visitors browse to other non relavent pages).The flow of content is also important - you must acknowledge the specific queiry - answer or respond - differentiate yourself from the other advertisors/competiters and then close the deal - all within seconds.

In my experience with LPO and the Website optimizer shows the best improvements came from changes in images on the page. Even images as simple as "click here" made significant increases in conversions when offering variations.Apparently bright, colorful shiny text with shadows hypnotizes people into clicking here!
