I’d like to share a peek into our latest process flow for our online community platforms. I say ’latest’ because we’re constantly evolving the process with each iteration -- looking for ways to refine our practice, gain some efficiencies and improve the system. But we also want to spell out the work required to our clients, let them know the research that goes in to each project and the risks and rewards that lay ahead.

This looks like it covers most of the details. It would be great to see samples of some of the components. For instance, it would be really interesting to see some examples of User Research (identifying cohesive potential of niche audiences). One thing that seems missing is identifying potential obstacles and coming up with solutions for them. (For instance, the list of potential problems might be: what if your community evangelists go rogue or what if the niche community you’ve identified ends up not interested...)

Good points -- we definitely keep the first one in mind, hence the "identify evangelists and when to involve" -- that step always has to take into account the barrier of entry for the platform, timelines, industry or user group, and the prestige of our client. I can’t, with all honesty, say we’ve hit your second point, ever. We may not always meet our optimistic sign-up goals or engagement metrics, but we always bring some users into the fold, and our clients always end up shocked by what they can learn from even a few passionate users... How’s the new job working out?

I like it, a great working outline for entering community building. Like Vanessa says there is points to expand on although that’s possibly endless! A great founding document, well done - thanks for sharing.
