Janet,Just knowing I can get free links with the URL as the anchor text is nice. Do they allow you to control the anchor text as an upgrade?

Matt’s Advice has always worked for me. It is all about consistency both on your website and off. Always link to the Canonical URL, and even remove the other junk in the non canonical URLs if you can.

Haven't used pipes yet. Seems useful enough to give it a try though. This is great info for social search.

Holly, crap I totally forgot that people are still publishing print SEO books. I haven't bought one since SEO for dummies came out. These all look like great reads. Thanks!

Nice find, surprisingly the list contains people who are not technology savvy. Of course it does contain the tech savvies but it its almost half and half. That is a nice list.

As cool as this sounds like any thing, the implementation of this new technology will be the a key factor here. After that search users still have to adopt and utilize the new service. Which means change, and that means making new habits for the users. Which again is why implementation and re-implementating the solution is very important.I hope Yahoo! can pull it off. The search industry needs competition.Cheers, -Bart

lol dude this is crazy man. I have always thought that the robots.txt file should actually be located in any location much like the xml sitemap. Just add it to the webmaster account. They always seem so revealing. Your client’s webmaster should know to use sub domains for testing and never to link from a "live" source to the testing area. Bots only know about pages because of the links. Some do some fancy search queries and so forth.

Microsoft seems determined to buy Yahoo! one way or another. So maybe Microsoft and Yahoo combined could bring some better competition in the search engine market. So we may see a little guy beat up ona  big guy. Americans like the underdog too... even though we might seem to be the be big dog globally. Its just a ruse :).

ummm I think this one is hot already. Let me check the home page. Its not actaully on the hoem page but it is in the "Top 10 Most Sphunn In What’s New" section on the home page. So it is not getting as much attention.Funny how it really isn’t "most Sphunn" but is still in the "most sphunn".

I like this idea. I mean comparing Google to Google makes sense to me. But at the same time Google has (claims to have) the largest and most extensive index of any search engine.http://www.google.com/corporate/http://searchenginewatch.com/showPage.html?page=2156481Thus a logical deduction would create a "general" rule of "if Yahoo sees or has seen it so does Google". In fact I try to get as many links from as many sources as possible. Google never tells you the whole story, so I never expect any other search engine to either. What is important is to keep them organized. So when you do see abnormalities adjustments can be made. Also lets remember that Google is not the only search engine. Even "search engines" are not the only search engines. Any website with external search can send you traffic. For me and my clients it is all about overall visibility. Links are the gauge to measure this. I don’t care who hosts my clients links. If they are in an email, in a article on a newspaper site, or on a blog. Every link can send my client TRAFFIC!Search is great because it sends targeted traffic. Its not the only source of traffic. Its usually only half of it ;)For a theory and analysis blog. This post sure did have a lot of speculation. No sources sited. Why don’t people site sources any more?

Dude, we have all made mistakes. In fact it takes several "mistakes" to finally get it right. trial and error or even better yet is a proper scientific methodology.I have been finding my self being a lot more selective with my linkedin.com profile. 280 people is a lot of professional contacts for someone my age. Thankfully very few of them I met online. But I am happy to say I have talked in person with most of them. All of them I have had some form of contact other than linkedin.com.Cheers,-Bart

I totally use this for every client I have that is willing to change website code. Typically any textual link that does not add value to the theme of the site. Privacy policy, contact us, etc.I even do the home page for typical "home" links. But then link back to the home page using assigned keyword phrase in the content of several if not all pages. Sometimes I use the footer instead. Its more of a balancing act for user and search engine. I however don’t use the no-follow as liberally as many other SEO’s seem to. Perhaps I should do some more experimenting.Thanks.

"when the analytics code is at the top of the page it slows down the load time as opposed to when it’s at the bottom." This was cool to know. I was wondering about that. I have four analytics on my site right now. I put them all at the bottom, but I have several clients who actually put them in the head tag of all places. Wondered why their sites seem to be slow even compared to mine with the four :)

dude totally I unusually tell my clients when it is the right time to hire some one in house or not. My recommendation is usually based on their resources, knowledge, and the amount of personal one on one time they require of me.I screen clients this way too. Which has to do with Jake’s comment about the title of the article. I still end up having clients who seem to slip past my screening process. Mainly the ones I knew already or have a non-professional relationship before I took them as a client.

dude this is ok, I mean Google has had this for a while. Voice search and then choose to have it sent to you via text.Problem is I use Cricket and so I am not able to get anything from google via text. Lame Cricket. But the flat rate for unlimited usages nationwide rules! So if "textChaCha" is not blocked or is allowed to use the Cricket network I woudl say Really Awsome Jordan! I’ll try it. Thanks again Jordan.

Thanks Emily! We are fond of it too. My coworkers got on my back for not adding a link to OrangeSoda.com. Those silly guys, my comment wasn’t about our company per say. It was about SEO apprenticeship in general. How I think you are right about conversation, and apprenticeship. But I added something to the discussion. Which was the use of the scientific method.Which again Emily, you and I have created our own conversation / apprenticeship here. both learning from each other. Our discourse community may be small, but its intelligent :). I don’t waste lame promo links in a good SEM industry conversation like this. Those are better used on forums, blogs, etc. where our target market lies.So eat that co-workers! But I will add a link to our OrangeSoda, Inc. Partner Page :)

I was suprised no one has posted the actual code. then I tried my self and spinn makes it ahrd to do this. But here it goes. META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP" or META NAME="msnbot" CONTENT="NOODP" Of course you would use the start tag character before META and end tag character after NOODP". Thios text editor won’t let me use the actual character. :)

Or an example of one?I have never seen this happen. please orivde proof of fact.I prefer to use the robots.txt file over the meta noindex / nofollow tag(s). But if three of you gusy say so I may have to concure. On the resoruces that were cited I couldn’t find anything talking about the robot.txt file still passing pagrank value. Please due enlighten me.

I was 1st given my look into SEM by Paul Allen. He taught a internet entrepreneurship class at Utah Valley University. That was more conversation. I have had mentors and am currently a mentor for my team at OrangeSoda, Inc. The neat thing our team is very much into learning from each other, so sometimes I am the protege. We really have a great team here.I do know several people who do every thing by trial and error. Testing, and testing some more. 200 servers, mass changes and awesome crawler and rank tracking. But this could also be considered a conversation perhaps. Truly though I would also have to add the scientific method to your list.
