Link schemes, blatant self promotion and a lack of genuine interest in the topics discussed.

Not the kind of content Id expect on SEJ or to be good for the industry.

One great thing about an opinion piece? Others can weigh in and leave comments that encourage conversation, and we can all grow from it if we choose. Thanks for leaving your thoughts here Danny. Its good to see how you view Googles industirial rise and I appreciate you taking the time to disagree in a way that we can understand.

@Harith - did you read beyond the part you copied and pasted? I openly researched it, wrote this as an opinionated piece and thought that was clear. If it wasnt, I apologize. Im sorry it wasnt up to your standards though and certainly appreciate you sharing your view.

@Naoise grep makes things super easy, but many (sadly) arent running *nix servers. I wouldnt classify them as SEOs though, since anyone worth their weight in salt loves them some Apache... :)

Thanks for the submission and comment! Log files have been a big part of my career and Im often surprised just how many havent become acquainted with them. Hopefully this post is encouraging enough to get some more people on board.

Excellent example of the SEO/SEM community coming together to do something constructive for a change. Love it.

Not worthy of Sphinn love really. I dont have enough friends to make this go hot anyway. Its just another op/ed piece from a resident Google hater.

Sphunn for creative use of Awesomization in a title.

Great contribution to those in the industry here from Ann. Ive been using a few of these, but some presented will definitely be helpful.

I love that were finally seeing some valuable discussions here that blend online rep management with the various forms of Internet marketing out there. Excellet article and certainly worth a read for those in the SEO and SMM space.

@iBrian - Sorry, not an ad. Hence the lack of links to them in all cases except for spam bots to eat up their email addresses. Tough to discuss the company and raise awareness without using their name, which double as their URL.Sorry.

Right? Im not even an SMM. Thanks for the submit Brent.

Sorry for outing your love for Quantcast Rae, but these reports simply kick ass. Weve begun showing clients the benefit and theyre all over it.

I wish there was more room in the description of the topic here, but I hope whats there is enough to let Sphinn users see the point of this. Im excited to be seeing a movement like this, particularly because Ive seen a lot of good blogs (and bloggers) ruined by paid links and product pushes. This wont stop that, but it introduces an entirely different approach. The fact that bloggers arent required to link to the merchants sites is pretty cool. It puts the focus back on the product and benefits than it does the manipulation of search.

Kudos to Brent for taking a situation, making the most of it - and truly tapping the power of social media to make the most of it. Excellent case study, excellent evening.

Commented on the post, but its worth repeating here as well. Our independant user studies have shown that media rich SERPs really break up the users train of thought. Many times the organic listings directly beneath the media receive a higher clickthrouhh. So yeah... These changes are big for search marketers :)

I was wondering if this was entirely new, or something previously tested. I had not caught Mark Robertsons post from a few weeks ago - but the timing seems to match what Id expect and have seen of late. Most of the recent SERP chages Im seeing from Google take place on a Friday evening, btween midnight EST and about 4AM. At least, thats when Im hearing them all be noticed. This push seems more consistent. Ive seen the double results more and more since my post went live - so perhaps @videomoyo is correct -- the tests have been gaining traction.

The productivity increase is what its all about. But somedays I find the connectivity to be essential. Outside of a work setting, Twitter has helped to strengthen connections with folks I wouldnt otherwise think I had a lot in common with.
