Thanks for this Gerald, but it's misleading to quote an entire paragraph from my article http://www.ask-kalena.com/articles/can-seo-exist-beyond-google-personalization/ (which Dave quotes in his post) as your story description instead of quoting Dave's own article content

Note to mods - I couldn't find the water cooler category anymore so posted it in the Sphinn Zone. If this is not suitable, or if you're no longer accepting water-cooler style posts, feel free to remove, thanks

Sebastian - tonight, you're my hero. Yes I've had 4 glasses of wine, but still. xx

Derek paints a fairy tale in which site owners are the princesses needing rescuing, SEOs are the evil witches trying to do them harm and web developers are the heroes on white chargers saving the day. I’ve known plenty of evil web developers and a few dodgy princesses too. Not all scammers are SEOs and not all SEOs are scammers. If Derek had just used the word “some” in front of SEO I’d be nodding along with him.

Didn’t realize it was an old story and I’m adding extra text here because the silly box requires it.

Me too. The official blog post http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/introducing-google-chrome-os.html talks about it running via a windowing system that sits on the Linux kernel. My guess is it will stay a developer’s toy for quite a few versions

@fuzzone @Pulsar The mistake might seem small to you, but not to me or the others who complained on Twitter. The fact is that they isolated their audience and failed their corporate mission, albeit for a very short time. I guess it would be the equivalent of promoting a Queen’s birthday logo on Google.com. The large majority of Americans don’t celebrate the British Queen’s birthday. It has absolutely no relevance to them. It would confuse people and I’d bet there’d be lots of complaints. This blog post was written and Sphunn before the fix occured and it got the message through. Mission successful.

@ Nick Ah, now I get it. Wow, never even noticed that before but you’re quite right.

@Jane Thanks, it’s nice to know I’m not just being paranoid :-)@Nick Not sure I understand your gripe - lots of people own different domain extensions to protect their brand and have them redirected to a .com. Why shouldn’t Google do this with their .us site? Maybe I just didn’t understand what you meant

@MattCutts When I published the post, the error still existed. If it had been fixed before I published, I wouldn’t have awarded GG the Dumbass crown. You might think my reaction was excessive, but try experiencing Non-US cultural isolation on the web for over 10 years and you’d understand my frustration. I expect it from Mom (Mum!) and Pop sites, but not from a global search engine with a corporate mission of universal inclusion.

@inkodeR Yep, I saw that. Came across as a bit of a "who cares?" comment. Which kind of reinforces my point about American-centricism on the Web. *sigh* But he’s also right in that it was fixed quickly so get over it. I believe I made my point, time to move on :-)

Google New Zealand admit via comments to fixing the *mistake* which they’d already spotted. So did they fix Google Australia too?

@KenJones Classic! Interesting that Google have now CHANGED the alt attribute to read AUTUMN. Win :-) Do I have more influence than I thought? Or did Danny make a phone call? Heh
