Seth is basically talking about personal branding here, and he makes valid points. Remember who Seth is, he’s ’Mr Purple Cow’ - he’s all about being remarkable and generating interest that way, rather than being a goldfish in a sea of goldfish, which is what most SEO is.
I didn’t see this as dissing SEO, rather providing another way to look at it. Make something people for people to look for, rather than try to appear as a top result on a packed list. Seth is pretty darn good at what he does, critizing him when you have barely a fraction of his expertise or results seems churlish at best.

So I’m a relative newbie around these parts, but this post confuses me. It’s not overly related to SEM, its mostly masturbatory ego stroking, and nobody has even commented on it, which seems to indicate a general lack of interest - yet this thing has been on the home page for days now, and is sitting at postion 4 as I type this - above a bunch of posts which are actually relevant to search marketers. To paraphrase, WTF yos?

@seobro + @ askjaniescott - did either of you actually bother to read the article before commenting? Do you know what SearchWiki even is? SearchWiki is a Google tool that allows you to personalise your search results so that sites you like show up first when you run searches on related topics. It’s not a smaller search engine - it is additional functionality that Google has provided. Enough with the lame @sslicking comment spam already.
