Who wants to have a drama filled conversation about this? Whos going to throw the first punch? Is there room in this world for a bit more pudding?

"...clients paying more are almost always more rewarding and responsive clients."

That is so true.

So this is pointless. Sphinn is now just like every other edited list out there. Remember when it was supposed to be in response to over edited networks like Digg??? Digg >> Sphinn >> Sphigg

Who is Joe Hall?

One thing that stands out in this article is how PR is still a valueable metric in the paid link world. While as far as ranking is concerned PR seems to be pretty pointless. You would think that if Google wanted to muck up link buyers and sellers they would just get rid of the useless metric.

@jill - In some cases its not relevant at all.Lets take a look at the example that MajesticSEO looked up. If someone runs the query, “Joe Hall” and jozsoft.com comes up with the term “Joe Hall” as the title, that is an extremely pointless result. Because there is absolutely nothing about me on that site. Yes, it is my company, but there is nothing about me as an individual. Thats what my personal blog is for and is why I titled that blog “Joe Hall”.

I am glad you agree, but I disagree that "it’s necessary to generalize". I would rather read an informative case study of a development/design project that went wrong and affected SEO. Then we can ideify that these issues exist, and talk about ways to move forward when we encounter a bad designer or developer. But to make an assumption that the vast majority or even a small population is bad at SEO because they are designers/developers sets up a road block before you have even encountered the person or their work.

Maybe I am biased...I have been developing web sites for quite some time now both personally and professionaly. And i will say that yes you will find many designers that believe a handfull of this. But, at the same time you will find a handful of (bad) SEOs that agree with them. You will noticed that I emphasized the word designers. Because quite honestly there is a huge difference between a designer & developer. But, more importantly, I don’t think this has to do with whether you are a designer or not, I think it has to do more with your level of understanding of the internet in general. And quite honestly the vast majority of SEOs that I have met that really understand how the Search Engines index and rank data are the ones that come from a development past.Web developers that don’t understand SEO, probably don’t understand the multifaceted complexities of the world wide web/HTTP and other protocols. So therefore I would say if you have a developer that doesn’t understand SEO, you have a bad developer. Fault them for that, and don’t generalize.

I agree with Jeff, this is a complete non-story and has absolutely nothing to do with Internet Marketing. Why did this get on the front page???

@sza - try learning a bit about the people you argue with online. Otherwise you risk emabarassing your self. Although that probably isn’t the concern of someone that has a completely anomous profile. The truth is that, when some one starts talking about algorythmic changes @theGypsy & @misscj are some of the true experts in the field. Scientific SEO to them isn’t a marketing catch phrase its something they have spend years of devotion to. Something that they will still be doing long after you have adopted the next trendy marketing catch phrase.

I was raised roman catholic, thinking about my own mother not knowing who the pope is, would be weird, seeing how she acts like they are BFF.

Hey everyone, I used to work as a IM manager for a C21 franchise. I can tell you that they already have TONS of untapped tools and resouces. The biggest problem with them is that they seem to be very sporadic in where they place their money and doesn’t have a focused direction in terms of promoting their franchises and brokers online. But they are a great company to work with. Let me know if anyone has any questions from an IM outsiders view!

Yeah, i am assuming Sarah Bird would know allot more about this than I. I very briefly studied law in the past, and as a reuslt, I am now an SEO not a attorney! (thank god)

@jillYou are exactly right, and therefore, I think the proper route would be for each individual customer to sue for personal damages on an individual basis. When a state prosecutor gets involved there is a lasting impact that all SEOs in washington state will have to abide by. Theres a reason why Sarah Bird at SEOmoz is following this case so closely.

@SEOAlyBut my point is that most of the claims that the state is making aren’t legally actionable. I can legally go around telling people that I am the best SEO in the world. Is that true? No. Is that scummy? Yes. No matter what its still legal because it isn’t pointing to any facts. And you are right it is the court’s responsibility to educate themselves with the issues at hand, but often times that doesn’t happen. especially on the state level when a judges docket is backed up and they just want to move on. They call it like they see it.As a result blanket decisions that can and will effect every SEO in Washington State are made in haste, based on a case full legally in-actionab;e claims.

I just posted this at the other thread:Honestly, I am not really digging this. Heres why: from my view point many of the claims that Washington state are making aren’t legally "actionable". When cases involving tech issues present them selves in state courts often times well intention prosecutors, jurors, and judges, make bad blanket decisions that are based on their ignorance to the issues at hand. For eample I am willing to bet that the judge that presides over this case has very little knowledge of SEO, if any at all. How can we expect for the system to help our industry with these issues if the system doesn’t fundementally understand our industry?
