I really didnt expect this to hit Sphinn, but the BING FAIL on the tragedy of Michaels death is fairly relevant to SEO ... especially News Search SEO, as it took Microsofts BING over TWO HOURS to serve updated news stories on the death of MJ ABOVE THE FOLD ... beforehand, they were still serving sites that sell MJ concert tickets, while the rest of the world was covering the sad sad news. A big FAIL for Bing, a bigger loss for all of us who grew up listening to Thriller.

Ok kids, the post has been edited, and I considered also Desphinning this myself, because yes, I did go on autopilot in this regard. But you know what, I think the list can be useful and will be bookmarking it anyway, so despite the bad grammar, which has now been fixed, going to leave it alone. Thanks for the convo and pointing everything out.

Note : Yeah, this one fell through the editorial cracks, scheduled without a full review and went live, it happens. Weve published wrap ups of Mashable articles like this before, and even Pete loved it entirely : http://mashable.com/2008/06/23/mashable-hearts-search-engine-journal/GOD FORBID a mistake is made, but thanks for pointing it out. The blog post has been edited with new sub-par Loren grammar.

Ive been experiencing problems with MSN and Robots.txt for over a year. Especially with them indexing and serving affiliate or ad tracking URLs in the SERPS. Usually if you contact them, they can work on it with you, but this is an issue which really needs to be taken care of.
from lorenbaker 1034 Days ago#
Haha! Yes, and by us including links in our RSS, all those high quality scrapers are pointing links back to SEJ pages and other properties too ;)
from lorenbaker 1061 Days ago#
Sorry, seems to be a hosting issue. Taking care of now. Hate it how this stuff happenes when all eyes are on the site.

The NDA is not for anything but to protect the speakers and the knowledge and tactics that are shared at this valuable conference. One differentiation point between IM Spring Break, Scary SEO and the IM conference series and the other industry conferences is that we give speakers the opportunity to free their shackles and actually give useful tips and tactics to the attendees which are personalized, can be used by the attendees, and give them a competitive advantage in their market; whether it be SEO or affiliate marketing.Live blogging and the rampant sharing of information on Twitter is amazing and a part of the growth of knowledge in this industry, but under the threat of the publication of their recommendations or secret tactics, speakers do not usually share insider tips and ideas at larger conferences for reasons of liability and that information getting in the hands of people who do not attend the conference, their competition, Google, or even spammers who can use advanced tactics for their evil doing. Its also what they get paid to do. And some of these speakers make $500 an hour. Youre getting them for 3 days at that rate + plus food + beer + a great time and awesome connections. This is the reason why there are so many compalints that the material and content covered by speakers at some of the larger conferences, throughout the marketing industry, is rather old and used up. Speakers tend to show up with a cookie cutter presentation. Why? Why should I, as a speaker, share a secret with not only the attendees at a conference but also the 20K RSS readers at SEJ, the 20K RSS readers at SER, Sphinn, Forums, Twitter, Radio ...etc. It is no longer a secret. The NDA protects the speakers and also gives attendees EXCLUSIVITY.At IM Spring Break, were letting our panel members open up, be honest, speak their mind and actually say "do this cause no one else in your vertical is doing it" or "get a link from here and it will help you substantially."The information shared at ScarySEO under NDA was honest, to the point, direct and reminded SEOs that they are not only on the cutting edge of the online marketing industry, but also what other tactics were used by others outside of SEO to get results.Do you think that an affiliate marketer will raise his hand in a huge conference in New York and spill the beans on how he dominates all of the search engines via a technique he put together. Chances are that he wouldnt be given the microphone. At IM Spring Break, were also literally going to open the floor to all attendees, sharing discussion, ideas and insight. Does this make it worth promising that you will not broadcast the information given during one panel and as parts of other panels?Does the security of knowing that a Google Spam Engineer wont be reading every little detail about your site and your past linking then wiping it out of Google? What is said at IM Spring Break during the NDA sessions stays at IM Spring Break and in the marketing strategy of YOUR company. I think thats worth it :)

Almost every time I perform a local search for businesses in my area, local.botw.org pops up. They have quickly become a trusted local business authority, up there with Yellowpages and Merchant Circle.

Difference is, if you pick up a nasty someone and decide you dont want to see them again after you see them in the morning, you can cut your ties with them, unless you get the herps or something. With linking, once you pick up a bad link, its a knotch on your bedpost forever in the Google Cache, and almost anyone can find out about it :)Great analogy and great blog!
