I agree, it has legs, but looking at the channels you can lease in the different tiers, the majority of it is related to search. Umm, last time I checked, search engines need something to search. If you take away all the other sites, what is the point of paying monthly to use google, yahoo, msn and others. This is good linkbait that makes all of us stop and realize how dependent we are on the internet.Of course, it seems quite a bit is ending in the year 2012:http://www.google.com/search?q=the+end+2012
Story: Has Google Gurgled?
thx sza! I have spelled Mahalo right plenty of times, and this one I just went brain dead. MahaloMohaloMoholaMohaloMahalaMaholaJust for the record everyone, its spelled www.mahalo.com ... I cant think of a better site name to screw up.Does anyone use that thing? Other than "calanicas"? (mispelled for entertainment)

Gr8 for-MATT! muhahah. Very interesting stuff. I would have never pegged Shimon as a gun man.
This is probably the best blog post that I have ever read in the last 100 years.
Of course he knows. Its the theory everyone throws around called FUD. Trying to scare people into believing the worst possible case. If you start saying theyre all fluff, they actually could wax everyone.Good controlled test though!
Thats great and all, but why announce to the world (ie..google/matt cutts) "Haha, you missed! Bet you cant do it again"?In other words, if you were walking down the beach with your metal detector searching for treasures, then you unearth a treasure chest stuff full of millions of dollars, would you tell everyone on the beach?
Sphunn by accident. It sounds intriguing, im just not sure what were sphinning. Theres really no information about it worthy of a post. Give me examples, screenshots... SOMETHING. Im definitely not saying it isnt going to be the reputation tool of the year, I would just rather read about it when there is something to read about.cool name though.
Story: Knol Way Around It
Guess Danny and Aaron already hit on this, but I thought Matts title was pretty clever.
I cant speak for all, but personnally it doesnt affect us at all. We were no longer using google to advertise. We have other streams of traffic that is a lot better than what their system had to offer. Converation rates with google average 1:80 and the other stream of traffic is a constant 1:4. So no, it doesnt hurt us at all. Just prevents less competition from trying to get a jumpstart.
@halfdeck... heres the direct link http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/selling-links-that-pass-pagerank/#comment-117818
After not being able to find info on what happened, I posted, then fell on to the graywolf vs cutts fun. Thats where I read cutts saying they stopped showing the ads. So I added the update last night linking directly to the comment where matt said this. What I think is funny is some keywords work and some dont. Maybe they should use their own keyword suggestion tool. @Sebastian, that does bring up an interesting point with regard to adsense ads. I underestand their points, but they sure seem to be acting like a teenager with how theyre handling everything.
Story: More Hypocrisy By Google -
A bit of a ridiculous outlook. Pagerank is not what people are trying to get. The ultimate goal is getting oranic traffic to ones site. PR was nothing but a measuring stick that the whole industry adapted to. Why not, the big bad Google is top dog so using something to value a site makes sense. Problem is, PR has not meant much in terms of valuing a site for a few years now. When the PR buying craze was in its prime, you would buy a link on a PR7 or up site and it would rocket you to the top. Then Google put a governor on high PR sites and it stopped working so easily. At that point, the idea of PR began its downfall. So effectiveness was dropping, while the average net users perception was on the increase. In my opinion, buying PageRank today is no different than you teasing up your hair with a bunch of hairspray, throwing on your spandex, units, z-cavarriccis, parachute pants and throwing in your 8 track tape of Van Halen 1. As far as the companies you mention...its not about Pagerank making or breaking them. Its about the people behind the companies and how they adjust to the changes. Both are innovative and smart people so they will find a way to continue to thrive in their industry. Marketing online is not going to hell, regardless of what you may think. If these companies had 10 customers that all were dependent on PR and thats it, sure, I could see them dying off. Problem is, youre talking about two companies that have a huge draw of customers that are somewhat loyal to them. That means theyll be happy to work through any changes.Anyhow, my 2 cents.
Good stuff! Now we just need the secret words and locations of the MSN & Yahoo parties. Last year Yahoo had a private party on the roof of ... The Palms?? A lot of people didnt have invites, like we didnt, and most were turned away, like we were. You know, as much money as we spend with them, letting us in a cool vegas party is the least they can do!
Great tutorial. Youd be a great, and popular, teacher. Rough around the edges...but extremely knowledgeable. Like the Howard Stern of Search.
You have great, thought out posts and im a fan of the swearing and brutal honesty.
no apologies needed. ive done the same thing too many times. ps. i like your "where im bookmarked" graph. Pretty cool.
They have a penalty and youll find them listed around 60 or so. This is kind of old news as its been this way for a few months. Many sphinns about it.
Next thing you know, ole Billy Gates will be sportin Jenna Jamieson on his arm hitting all of the Hollywood hot spots and lobbying hard to get his new BFF Joe Francis (girls gone wild) out of jail."MS Smut Cash" HA!
I think I would rather be in M.Cutts position though. He is lucky enough to be calling the shots rather than being in an SEOs shoes who has to change to there every move and deal with all of the panicd clients. The SEO will lose clients/money, M.Cutts does get rained with questions from the industry, but its not like theyre really losing anything.Stock price down a hundred bucks this month? phew! whats .5 billion? :|
Boy I bet they wish they had a mulligan in their pocket for this PR nightmare! "Hey, let me slip this bill in your pocket and you make it all disappear!" .. guess they should have thrown in another $100 to keep their money maker shut

possible financing options would be:Break it down into shares of ownership, for example 600 shares @ 25k each and see the amount of interest. If someone wants to invest more, buy 10 shares for 250k. I can think of a few of us that would have a high level of interest in something like this we can rely on. If the interest isnt there, see option B. Put the business plan together and pitch it to some big pocket investors. I think the project, if done right, would catch the eye of enough VCs. If interest isnt there, see option C. After becoming premium member (wink), use page strength tool at the wonderful wizard of moz. :-)But the idea of open source and it not being tied to one company would make it most attractive and a well accepted score.
I think I enjoy you twos replies to most sphinns more than I do the story itself. [insert slow clap applause]
