Cool. I can now get my kids diapers, rotate my tires, get that ’special’ ointment, milk, and my online marketing plan all under one roof! Thanks Wal-Mart. While I understand that this does open the SEO/SEM door to the masses, just think about the day that Wal-Mart runs a ’Get your business websiite on Google for $10.98 (or other Wal-Martish price)’ in a national ad or on TV. .’At Wal-Mart, we understand small business and the frustrations that can come not seeing your website on the search engines like Google and Yahoo. That’s why we are now offering...’ puke. Hey - maybe they’re hiring! Or....maybe their keeping track of small businesses to see what the next trend in business will be.

Seeing as how I’m in Glendale, AZ, Scottsdale would be cool because it’s only a sneeze away.  Plus everyone is invited to stay in my 2 bedroom apartment ;)

great.I really hope they don’t bring this into the main search. My question, and I might have misread, is that if person ’A’ votes for a site wil is affect the results of person ’B’ for the same keywords?  If so then I am available for hire to vote on your website. Good times....

I don’t know about this.  I don’t work at either google or facebook but would assume that google has more longevity than facebook. If I had the choice between google and facebook, it would be google in a minute. All it takes is someone to launch the next hot SN site to cause facebook to lose ’market share.’ I can see this happenin long before a new google type search engine hits the ’net (and is as big as google). In other words - I see facebook as being a trend.  I don’t see this with google.

You don’t even know how cool this is.  I’m in the midst of writing (yes, this is off topic) an SEO friendly CMS and was wondering how to dynamically rewrite URLs using info from the database.  I had know idea this could be done.  Well, I had some idea because I’m a vbseo user, but didn’t realize it was this ’easy.’...or obvious i mean.

Thanks. I know it’s a tough topic for some, but I think that in the ’web 2.0’ world people need to assume, unless otherwise stated (and even then) that any info they put on any website will be used for marketing, statistics, data collection, etc...I’d say if you join facebook, you opted in. And at that I think facebook ads are pretty much ignored anyway. People know where to look for what they want and don’t really notice the ads.

Remember that page load/response also might slow down/hinder search spiders from indexing. I also think that there are other things to consider when it comes to page size and user bandwidth:1. I have worked for fortune 100 corporations that have huge pipes in and out of the building. Unfortunately all the other 200+ computer users, routers, bandwidth restrictions, corporate filters, and other office equipment slowed the internet connection to my office computer down to a snails pace. 2. Wireless connections can be really slow. Whether on a public network or private network, these connections are prone to being slowed by many unforeseen factors.3. DSL connections are slow. Once again, from experience, I have seen DSL companies oversell their resources causing major slowing of their systems. Might not be happening to your DSL connection, but believe me it’s real.As SEO/SEMs I think we all need to realize that it’s not good to be putting a bunch of youtube/google videos, or anything else that would slow a page load, on a front page. If we’re talking about optimization of a page or a site, these issues cannot be ignored.

At least for me, SEO, SMO, link building, etc... all fall under understanding the client, the client’s target audience and goals, and a little of "there’s a time and place for everything’ thinking. It’s all part of the basic marketing principles. Although I do feel that SEO is the first step of building a successful website/web business you should diversify your marketing from SEO and SMO to offline website marketing. I think that people sometimes get so caught up in the process that the big picture is overlooked. That’s just the way I see it. :)

I also am fairly new to SEO. Although I’ve been researching it for about a year, I really haven’t participated in the SEO social scene until now. It seems that Google is trying it’s best to emulate the ’real world’ when it comes to search. It, on it’s own, doesn’t give reputation (page rank) to a page. That’s what links do. It’s like in any social scene when one person talk about another, the person being talked about is naturally given a ’reputation’ (in google lingo ’person rank’). In googleville, the more links means the more people are talking about it which means the more reputation (ie..page rank). At least in my little warped world, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.Linkbaiting is like a forum troll, a rumor starter, etc... It’s all meant to get reaction. What I think SEO/SEM/webmasters should be concentrating on is, as Aaron Wall said, building the reputation of the website through branding and logical content. SEO/SEM is much like real-world markting. A strong, adaptable, marketing plan will out perform any and all quick fixes all the time.

Good stuff. It’s late and my eyes aren’t focusing too well on my macbook but did it say that a page that ranks #1 in the SERPs has it’s PR reduced on a monthly basis?or did I read it wrong?

Ohhhh....this is an interesting topic because, as we speak, some of the forum software developers are bringing common SN aspects into the ’forum world’ by including photo sharing, blogs, SN style profiles, etc...into their basic software packages.Kind of makes me think...

Thank you. This all comes down to webmasters and designers using the correct technlogy for the correct application.  It all goes back to the old saying: Just because you can doesn’t mean you should! For me, spiderability is everthing.  You can have the coolest site in the world, but if you can’t get good organic search results (or even indexed), you’re dead before you begin.
