Great post and something many people are probably guilty of. It is always much tougher to get quality traffic over quantity, but the rewards are well worth the extra effort. You can get a million visitors a day to your site, but if you can convert any of these visitors to customers, you may simply be wasting your servers bandwidth.

While it is true you don’t absoutly need direct linkbuilding to do seo, it is a very useful tactic for increasing your search engine rankings. Ultimitly, if you use these other methods you mention that ultimitly increase your online visibility, you will ususally get more links as well. So even without direct linkbuilding, seo/smo in general will usually lead to inbound links.

Just came accross this tool myself a week or two ago. Great tool for analyzing backlinks, also has a quality score rating which is pretty cool as well.
