@RogerRager Thanks for your kind words! I agree, there is potential with this tag, even for our own use, and SEOs should own it, since the likes of Google have abandoned it.

@steveplunkett I didnt get into it in my post, but I feel strongly that this tag could be used by the engines for much more than discovery, without adding any weight neccessarily. Just as a book has an index to find relevent content, an updated the meta keyword tag could be used to point bots in the right direction. dB inclusion sounds about right in this case study.

Thanks pageoneresults!I really wanted to prove how devalued this tag is, in terms of trying to rank, not only for my own curiousity, but also to have a post out there for biz owners who might be considering using an SEO who is trying to sell them on this faulty advice (that this tag will work wonders, etc.). My intent was never to actually be able to rank for it, I would have been very surprised if I had!
Very simple and straightforward! This can also be accomplished using segmentation, which is a great way to have your presets saved.
In FF I got a page load error for http://hyves.bbc.co.uk/.Checked it on IE and I get the Google DNS Error page. Whats interesting here is that the "View a cached copy of the web page from Google" link takes me to the cached page of http://www.hyves.nl/, even though the link is http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:http://hyves.bbc.co.uk/. Interestingly, hyves.nl has a PR of 7.Is it complete randomness, or just weirdness, or is Google returning the PR of hyves.nl, albeit seemingly randomly, whenever the hyves. prefix is used on a root domain.
How does calling Search Engine Optimization, "...a method of traffic acquisition," degrade your work as an SEO?
This site needs to change their background image. The text is very hard to read. I would suggest making the "above the clouds" theme into a logo or header, as it is the text gets lost in the page.
Firstly, let me apologize about being a "wet sponge", I guess this really hits close to home. That said, its too easy to criticize "the big companies" online seo efforts. Yes, improvements can be made, as with the Taco Bell example, but its not like the site is run by some guy in a basement who can upload files easily and make changes on the fly. The corporate environment is one where there are checks and balances, and lots of people (and stakeholders - vis a vis business decisions) involved. Some time may pass before any outward changes are made. As well, the application that is used may not be "seo friendly" to begin with. Anyway, I cannot really assume anything, but I would invite SEOs to put the shoes on of an SEO who works within a big company, and then write a blog post about it. There is a lack of understanding and appreciation of what really happens in the offices of Corporate America.
