@fitz depends what you mean by convert? do you convert to leads? or convert to sales? or convert to social actions? i.e. joining a facebook page, or signing up for an application.. etc, etc.. eitherway, yes they do have lower conversion rates than other forms of PPC, but FB ads have added values other PPC models dont. So from my expirience they have provided a positive ROI as a whole.

raising the sphinns to 30 wont do squat. youll still have people voting for crap , it will just require more votes for the same crap to go hot and if it doesnt go hot, some more crap will replace it. there is enough crap to go around Im sure! Adding an extra 3 or 5 or 10 or 20 sphinns wont stop people from blind voting things just becuase they recognize the avatar. and thats the problem IMO

IMHO not only was this just plain player hating on @rands part, but clearly a distraction technique from the lies of linkscape. Goes to show what happens when you start to get drunk with influence and no one to check you. With the size of seomoz, WTF does it matter to him that comoany was ranking? It surely cant be that he feels they were unethical, that would just be straight hypicrisy after the linkscape BS

@vingold exactly, "short changed the community" . Preventing two grown men from "getting themselves banned" does not justify closing off a conversation to others. To stay on graywolfs school theme, its like the teachers , who say the whole class is suspended to prevent 2 other students from being suspnded for calling each other names.

Total BS!! Mods should not be shutting off conversations at will. it sets a horrible precedent. No way to justify it, honestly, I can give a rats ass about the linkscape drama, but having sphinn step in and just shut off all comments on that one story is wrong on so many levels. Mike and Rand were not the only ones commenting.

It never ceases to amaze me, the level of petty hating that goes on in the SEO community, and specifically in Sphinn. I mean really!! To go as far as desphinning this post shows the extent of the pettiness. Its very 2nd grade. Especially when there’s shit on the FP everyday that that is much less relevant than this submission. What is the problem with pointing out the hypocrisy in Googles methods anyways?  "There has to come a time when the voice within demands to take the highroad." @mikedammon C’mon WHAT?? If taking the high road involves taking it the azz by Google and folding to their every whim, then guess I’m not taking it either , because dissent is necessary for progress. Or do you propose we just nod our heads and agree to everything Matt Cutts & Google say? Do you remember when they introduced the no folow?? Our country was born from dissent. It is our responsibility to speak up when something isn’t right. And Google applying its guidelines selectively. Isn’t right either. How in the world is this OK to everyone? Every time someone mentions something about it , people crawl out of the woodwork and get all huffy and puffy, screaming hate bait, etc.. I think that’s a myopic view and it’s missing the greater point. Especially coming from a community of marketers. And IMAO the behavior of those who blindly just go along with what Matt and Google say are adding to the problem.

@incredihelp WORD, Brotha, Preach on!! really thanks, becuase you couldnt have said it better. the garbage that goes hot here is sad and very indicative of what users find valuable. I used to think Sphinn was a place to come find good, quality, unique articles on online marketing. And it was and there still are. But it really has gone down hill. I could point to tons of really quality submits that have just floundered. so yes, its indicative of the content users here find valuable and useful.

Great article!I think its good that fb is getting rid of the more spammy articles and rewarding the better ones w/ their "great apps" program. Hopefully it will promote better, more useful apps... and generate bette roppurtunities to leverage fb.

@spostareduro NP, I submited becuase I agree with many of your points. The whole Sphinn eco system is screwed up, from spam hitting front page, to duplicate articles showing right ontop of 1 another for almost a full day, to things being pulled with no notice, etc, etc. Everyone is concentrating on the one point of spam hitting "whats hot", but I think your post discussed various important points besides the spam. I used to use Sphinn everyday, but becuase of this and the mob mentality of Sphinning things just becuase they recognize the avatar next to it, turned me off. I still use it, and enjoy many of the great submissions, but I lost the passion I once had for it. It’s not an attack on Sphinn, the mods, or the users. Just an observation that the aggregate of its parts is out of whack.It reminds me of an old saying " dont shit where you eat!"

the truth is the journalists, bloggers, seo’s , smm’s and everyone else is just upset becuase this exposes their own naivety. sorry, but its true!! Dont hate the player, hate the game;) What is the uproar about? probably just mad becuase they didnt think it up, its freaking genius. Period. Shame on the news outlets, they are the ones that should be getting heat.. but somehow that is being overlooked. if he would have hacked his way to news outlets displaying his article, or forced them in some way. But the reality is, that it was their appetite for sensationalism that got the best of them end of story! Its easy for some to sit back and critisize tactics from the sidelines. @kimota "SEO’s image took a major hit" LOL are you serious from who? Jason Calcanis!! also regarding comment about "Then by your own argument, you aren’t hoping they will link to you."cmon , as marketer you should know that not every single thing you try works, so that it worked cannot be used as a rebutal or as a counter point ..
