this article is basically flaming Jill Whalen and what she wrote, come folks this stuff has got no place on sphinn
from storyspinner 1036 Days ago#
@bluecollar - just and fyi that wasnt what I was advocating at all, and no where in the article does it state that. what I was saying, if you are starting a blog for those reasons and expect to be successful, think again, because if thats your primary end goal and not providing value to your audience, the effort will fail.

good find Harith, im always amazed at Southwest and their dedication to the online community. when my dad died and i wrote about my experience with Southwest on SearchMarketingGurus, they came out and actually commented. They are definitely tuned in and involved in the online community in many different ways.

just for the record, the statement I made, WAS NOT at the end of my presentation, it was in the middle, right before I presented what Barack Obama has done with social media. im finished with this conversation - I did not state what this article title or sphinn insuinuated I stated. Period, end of story.

I handle critisism quite well, in fact embrace it when the person is actually repeating what I exactly said, and has an issue with that. You, however, had miscontrued and insinuated what I said into me claiming "links are going away". Which is NOT what I said at all - LOOK AT THE TITLE HERE and ON YOUR BLOG POST, that explains exactly what you are doing as well as putting the word experts in quotes. The way you have respresented what I stated, was wrong and only meant to drive traffic to your own blog, as well as bring up the sphinns here. I never said links were going away, or that link building is dead, so you have misrepresented what I said. THAT is what I do not handle well, as would any other presenter. You claim I have no tanglible evidence, dude, no one has tangible evidence about the future, but if you read the signals - look at what the search engines are buying (companies), and how powerful social media sites are becoming, this is where its going. If you dont believe me I tell you to go pick Mike Grehans brains, hes of the same mind, and I bet you he will have the proof - his white paper is coming out REALLY soon.
from storyspinner 1186 Days ago#
@hugoguzman .... can I ask, what part of "where the search engines are going in the FUTURE" wasnt clear???and yes, i did read the post - if you notice, I commented there too.

Ive been on both ends of the coin here, both as a live blogger and as a person whos been live blogged.Just as recently as today someone claims I said "LINKS ARE GOING AWAY" (Shock, horror gasp) That wasnt what I said at all - Lisa was in the session but didnt blog I said this, neither did Tamar as that wasnt what I said, I said "Less Emphasis on Links, more on Social Signals" .... now a errornous post is sitting on sphinn with 18 sphinns ... yeeshIm more for taking my notes, coming back and writing about it and finding a person if Ive got something htat has a question on. Ive also come back and made corrections. But I dont think "speed" is necessary when it comes to live blogging.I think a lot of people are questioning its worth - perhaps it would be more valuable if the bloggers werent in such a race to get things up on a site, and had time to forumlate a more constructive review. I love Lisas perseption on things - especially when shes not under such pressure to get it out there.
from storyspinner 1186 Days ago#
Hugo - thats not what I insuinated AT ALL, what I said was that they are going to be moving away from putting such a heavy emphasis on links and looking more to social media signals.Saying that I said they would be phased out entirely is erronous, as that is NOT what I said in the panel. I said, less emphasis placed on links - they will certainly be part of the algorithim.Just for clarification - Li did not say LINKS WERE GOING AWAY or PHASED OUT OF THE ALGORITHM, if you had a question on this you could have come and asked me or emailed before posting something like this when its not what I insinuated at all.

I guess they are getting jealous that the "news" is getting spilled through these types of mediums, take for example the 6 bloggers at teh China Olympics, or the muslim-american in jail right now in Iran.... this stuff is hitting the "airwaves" faster than they can "control" it. before they can put their "sphinn" on it so to speak. You know there were alien ufos in Texas last night, it was on Twitter :)

That was the highlight of the conference for me, after having such a rough two weeks prior, it was comforting to just chill and have a really fun time celebrating life (Debs Birthday) that night. I think this picture really captures it too.

First off -- >a desphinn because this article is a "smackdown on Michael Gray" .... ummmm please, Lisa and Michael are friends. claiming this being a smackdown shows no knowledge of the people involved or the situation. friends can disagree at times, and thats what this is, besides, MG even sphunn this post, so I hardly think this was a PERSONAL attack at all.Having been at BlogHer08, and have witnessing many men there, including KeyRelevances own videographer, Beau, they were NOT treated as 2nd class citizens, in fact if anything, they probably got a lot of "good attention", being in the minority. I will also have to note that although not on the schedule, two of the sessions I were in had men as speakers. These two sessions were started by the woman who headed up the session, but they willingly passed the "podium" so to speak to the men that were invited to speak in these sessions.Great job Lisa!

Wow... all this stuff while Im asleep. Thanks Pierre, justfred, donn, Halfdeck, dave s and dave d .... and somewhat pageone.pageone... while you started out complimenting me .... you should work a little on your "take downs". I really dont know really what the deal is, why you have a problem with what Ive said. Matts said on many occasions that the meta description holds no value in the algo. Hes also stated on many occasions (as well as other Google reps at the conferences) that a good meta description is still good for the search engines, because of it displaying in the search results.Yes, they highlight the keywords in the results, but it doesnt hold weight in the algo, so I really dont understand at all what was "wrong" or "misinformation" in what I stated. I stated (pulled from the TRANSCRIPT emphasis mine) "The description does not have any kind of weight with the search engines and their algorithms. It does help the users who are using the search engines to gauge whether they want to click on what they are seeing in the search results or not."Yeesh, Ive been in this industry way to long when I see a person arguing about the value of meta description. ... I think I might go back to bed and start the day over. Thanks Pierre for pointing to those links. And thanks Dave for sphinning this. I think this is the first video sphunn LOL :)And no... Im not gonna respond any further... onepage, if you have an issue, email me li@lianaevans.com., unfortunately Ive got a ton of client work that has to get done, before Im off to BlogHer in San Fran tomorrow.
