Another top quality article, packed with information. I am also heading off to develop my content strategy now thanks to this, Maki

And what a challenge it is...but encouragement to break out of the internet marketing/blogging/social media niches into something else perhaps?

A good reminder that we need to think outside the box. I love helping people to come up with interesting blog topics for their specific blogs (which are generally not blogging about blogging blogs). But I do struggle with my own sometimes...

Great post - shame that self-promotion is so frowned upon...

Makes you wonder at what point you should upgrade your hosting? In anticipation? Or after the fact. I did have to laugh at this though...

It is reassuring to see that successful internet entrepreneurship defies age. It sounds so easy to ’find that gap in the market’ and fill it but it isn’t. And being second just won’t cut it (look at all the Million Dollar Homepage wannabies who jumped on the bandwagon after it had started moving). Is that a matter of skill? Luck? Or both?

Some good advice on how to get your posts noticed when your reader is doing their daily RSS scan. Thanks for finding this.

Great ’come back down to earth’ article. Won’t stop us trying though...

Excellent points - especially the first one. Perception is reality! If you know your stuff, there is no need for you to put yourself out there as a ’newbie’.

A few good alternatives here. But as with most lists - the way to make it work is to try one or two at a time - otherwise the result is just overwhelm!

Definitely a post which you can keep going back to time and time again for a bit more advice. Really comprehensive.

A truly inspirational article - just goes to show what a bit of courage can do.

Hmmm - not tried it yet, but I do know that BlogRush hasn’t exactly caused a rush for me.Is it worth giving it a bit more time? Or is BloggingZoom doomed for the Web 2.0 graveyard?

Nothing is as easy as it sounds when you put it into practice. We use a bespoke automated tool which works reasonably well, but there is still quite a lot of manual trawling to be done. Great article and great sphinn.

We all make these mistakes - I suppose it just depends how long we take to learn from them. Great article - might save me making a few more!

I think the combination is the happy middle ground. Personally, I would find it tough to blog if I didn’t love it. But I would find it tough to make a living if I didn’t try and make something from it...

Nice article - generosity is definitely underrated. Ok, it is done as a marketing exercise in the examples provided here, but given the choice between marketing with kindness or marketing with selfishness (i.e. shouting at you to get noticed) I would go for the former any day.

It’s easy to get complacent when your site is small or your blog doesn’t have many readers. You just never know though - it is worth being prepared. Thanks for sphinning...

I think the idea is to provide quality content, not crap? Unless I am mistaken of course...The point about advocating each other is sound. One of the best ways to get found is to network in your niche.

A post after my own heart - why is it so difficult to just do it right???

Contrary to popular belief, networking and getting traffic are two different things - I think this is a really well written post explaining that.

Great post and it brings to light an unfortunate, but unavoidable point - as soon as people see there is money involved, suddenly any tactic goes - good or bad. That seems to be exactly what has happened with Search Engine Optimisation, and I don’t doubt it will happen with social media as well. All we can do is to keep producing great content and crossing our fingers that it will prevail!

I like Problogger’s balanced articles - he has some great points here, and I like the way he has also linked to another post which gives the alternative view i.e. how commenting can hurt your reputation rather than help it.
